Is it just me or does it not look that M5ish, doesn't somehow look special enough.

Quad pipes, grilles on the front wings and tyres you could flatten a golf course with? Looks like an M5 to me

28.5 MPG and 232 g/km!
How did they do that?
An E39 520 M52 does 237 g/km.

Like it.
From the side profile it does look very flat fronted but it isnt offensive like some of the other turds to emerge from the BMW stable.

Errr, 501lbft from 1500rpm does it for me!
Talk about torquemeister!
I like the new F10 five and F01 7 series styling in the right colour/wheel combo.
As Dan said, its a technical marvel and i cant bloody wait to have a go! Also itching to get behind the wheel of the new 1M of which we have a demo in black.

Barry I was at your employers few weeks back. (Saw your car outside. I was sure you worked elsewhere
) Not a single M car for sale that I could see.
Went into Coopers and there was 4 1sM and various M5 and M3 sitting about.

I know you were there, did they say why you didn't get the job?
You must not have looked hard enough!
Saying that there hasn't been an M's in the show room for several weeks but there are always M3's and a few M5's about.
On the subject of M's we are about to become an official M dealer with only certain dealers in the country becoming so.

I PDI'd a 1M a few weeks back... Carried out roadtest just because it was a 1M and wow.. It handles great and with that power.. In a straight line the DSC light was flashing away... A great little car!bss325i wrote:Errr, 501lbft from 1500rpm does it for me!

Unless they got the units wrong (wouldn't be the only incorrect conversions on that page) then quick head maths makes that 680 - ish Nm. The old one was only 500 - ish Nmbss325i wrote:Errr, 501lbft from 1500rpm

Why is your dealer becoming an official M dealer?bss325i wrote: On the subject of M's we are about to become an official M dealer with only certain dealers in the country becoming so.
What does an official M dealer entail? Is it that dealer is only allowed to sell new Ms or new/used Ms?
Who else is becoming official M dealer?
Are there now BMWCCleaflets distributed with all new BMWs sold now thats what i heard?

In this months BMWCar mag there is a feature on a Mannhart racing E92 M3. It has the S63 engine from the X5M/X6M which is basically the same engine in the F10 M5.Simon13 wrote:i like, remap anyone? surely 700bhp or more is poss!
They have extracted 732bhp and 723lbft!
In a 3 series!

The whole 'M dealer' thing is a bit of a con. Each M dealership will have one sales guy who will be trained up to know all the stats etc, plus I'm guessing the mechs will go on training courses. The dealer I used to work for is an M dealer....the guy they trained up as their M specialist left a week later to go to Mercedes!
This new M5 has a bit of the old E39 about it and you can bet it'll be a much nicer thing than the E60.

Is this the first time an M5 has had a smaller engine than the one before it?

funnily enough, the last time i spoke to jason at fabs about your gearbox, we also spoke about the expected cos/availability of the f10 m5 engine !Simon wrote:I can't wait for the first one to be written off for Glenn to put it into an E30!
i do like the look of the f10, i think its much better looking than the e60.
as said earlier, with turbocharging, the power/torque outputs will be monstrous once the tuners get into the software.

yes but simply jumping the power of the engine involves ALOT OF other COSTS:
stronger chassis
stronger clutch
stronger brakes
stronger drivetrain
stronger cooling system
How do you ensure the harmony of all the components so from a technical view they can handle the required stresses/torques/heat energy generated etc?
How do you do this without access to FEA (Finite Element Anaylsis) etc which all the professional engineers at BMW M will have etc?
PS
you cannot just put it together like a jigsaw necesarily and hope for the best.....

Give it 10 to 15 years for when it reaches it's council stage and no doubt you will be able to pick up a dog for a few bags.eta wrote:I like, I will never own one though as I never will have enough cash.
And pony, you are assuming that they have engineered it to take exactly the power it has now. They will be deliberately over-engineered.
