Great that you got it up'n'running!kerrie wrote:Took the car for the first drive today and it is a monster!! 3.73 LSD and it spins upto third, problem is that with the lightened flywheel the 3.0L clutch is slipping, so will need to remove the box and fit a 4.4L clutch, not looking forward to this!!!!![]()
The clutch slippage is not due to the flywheel, but due to the too weak clutch.... Training makes master, huh?

Are you using a standard 3.0 clutch or do you have something a bit more special?

Standard Clutch and a special flywheel! the flywheel needs machining to increase the pressure plate force.

I am going to take a 1mm from the rim where the clutch bolts onto, it has dowel pins whch need to be removed and pressed back in, BBB said they will sort this for me if I return it, the new units should have this accounted for, when was yours made, My unit is a test unit fro BBB so not too bothered it is slightly wrong, teething issues.

Do you know how much 'free space' there is between the flywheel and disc/disc and pressure plate when the clutch is disengaged? Is there a chance that it will not fully disengage?kerrie wrote:I am going to take a 1mm from the rim where the clutch bolts onto, it has dowel pins whch need to be removed and pressed back in, BBB said they will sort this for me if I return it, the new units should have this accounted for, when was yours made, My unit is a test unit fro BBB so not too bothered it is slightly wrong, teething issues.

A small update, after moving house and having a baby, I have now been able to get the touring in the garage, I have removed the gearbox to replace the clutch and sort the slipping, also while I am conducting heart surgery I am wrapping the exhaust manifolds, painting engine mounts and fitting a 540i strut brace.
Will update when I have more info on the clutch issue.

Hi Will, Yes that is a Gedore set, top quality tools!
I know how you feel with the autobox! don't let it put you off, Mine did the same and I found it to be a dirty selector track and a wire missing from the selector, I traced every wire on the manual and highlighted it once confirmed, you also need to remove the battery and ground the positive between fault finding to reset the fault code.
if you think it is quick in 3rd ( Limp) wait till she strats in 2nd and the drops to 1st, all kinds of hell breaks loose!

Hi,
A small update, I have received my spec 3 clutch from the states, 3 weeks it took! but gave me time to wrap the manifolds and adapt a e34 strut brace, hopefully next weekend it will all be together, then just renew the MOT and I can use it.
