Wiring and plumbing is done.Just need to do fluid and it can be started for the first time






To get the m40 loom cover and injector cover on i had to trim them as the inlet is pretty close to the bulkhead.Is this normal?

Thanks Dan thought i had done something wrong.What about the injector cover as i had to trim the end of that too?

Another few hours at it tonight .

Got the prop/heat shield,e36 rack pipes ,steering linkage done plus filled with oil.
Also trail fitted the e36 airbox which works a treat .Still need to figure out the bracket but it fits.





Big thanks to Dan for the rack pipes .They fitted a treat and look ace.

i just couldn't get mine to fit with the "toblerone" bit that sticks out to the oil filter, had to cut it off. doesn't look like yours is an issue jake.

Plan for today is to get the engine running so i know the mods to the auto loom are ok.
Then i can refit the interior with out having to take it apart again.

How much water does the m52 take?Going with a 50/50 mix so if i knew the amount it will make things easier.

Hoping after today all that will be left to do is the exhaust and bleed the clutch and brakes.

M52s are abit of a bitch to bleed sometimes so I wouldn't go putting in all the coolant your using into a dry system as you'll lose half of it again trying to bleed it

Well today didnt go to plan at all due to me forgetting to pick up the ecu with the ews stuff last night

So today i got the clutch/brakesand it fulled with coolant. Also got the clutch bottle mounted and the lsd oil changed so wasnt all bad .


What has everyone done with there ews ?I have mounted the chip into me e30 key but can see how i'm going to get the ignition ring to fix to the barrel without cutting the cowl and glueing it on?

My chip is still in the original key,
zippy clipped to the receiver ring,
and is going to be bunged under the dash somewhere ....

That was my original plan but if i can i wouldnt mind the added protection.

I did think about sticking the ring in the back of the cowl next to the ignition barrel but unsure if it will work that way .I havent a clue how close the chip has to be to the ring.

And with forgetting the ecu i couldnt try it.

Jake I think Danthe has trimmed his cowl to fit the ring.
Looks factory and doubt it was too much work to do,ill be giving it a go on mine.

Trimming did look the only way right enough Tony.
I'll wait to see if Dan replies to see how he got it to stay there .

i trimmed my cowl and the ring just sort of sits there with no fixing at all. the chip in my key is in the hole where the wee lamp used to be. the key was too square to fit the ring so i filed it down to suit.

Never had to glue the rings on, if you dremmel the cowl out just right it will hold the ring against the barrel

Same here, stuck the ring on like in Dan's picture and chip into the key where the shitty light used to live.

Hiding the ring with the chip or original key stuck to it kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing really


Whats very annoying though if you have it all done and send off an ECU to be mapped and distinctly say that you have it in an E30 with the EWS in place and want to keep it, you get it back and try starting it with a key with no chip in it and away she goes

Been busy the last week

Ews is sorted out



Carpet cleaned and interior refitted



Exhaust manifolds and downpipes arrived from Dan



Quick wrap

Thats the exhaust complete and i had the car running tonight for a few minutes and all seemed good.

All i have left to do is get the coolant system bled , fit the rear arb bushes and the new washwipe bottle and it will be ready for an mot.

Dan the exhaust fitted quite easy mate . I did get a scare when i started it an what i thought was smoke started belching for the the manifold side of the engine.Turned out to be the exhaust wrap drying out never expected that tbh.

i have my manifolds to bodge again soon, really not looking forward to that
