I recall seeing a cut brown wire on your loom last week Dez when I was fitting it up and I'm sure there is one on mine in the main spagetti where the loom cover fits on the bulkhead.

Coolant temp sensor, but as your using an E30 single pin sensor that earths through the body that wire is not connected to anything. Looks like I couldnt be bothered to pull it out completely :)

my bushes arrived today so straight off with the old ones.

Image

i've not seen this for a while .

Image

cleaned the cross member and bay up with the brush on de-sludger and blasted of with the poowah washer :D

Image
Image

need to clean the battery tray up though, luckily its only surface and not taken hold.

some new bits.
Image

some technical arse scratching went on about how best to get the donk out of hibernation,

Image

Image

Brute force and Hydraulics FTW! :)

the plan was now to remove the sump and fit the new gasket, oil filter and fill, till i noticed the p/s pump has to come off so the belt needs to come off :?

Image

after a couple of calls [Craig/Dezzy] and a net search i got the belt off. easy when you know how :o:

too late for the sump today as i made a start on fitting the fly/clutch/box and more problems :(

i got the clutch lined up ad the box just would not go home/flush to the block even though it was on the clutch splines so after faffiing about on the end of a gearbox trying to force it on i gave up and had a look, the spigot bearing looks too small, damn.decided to try a 320i box [smaller diameter shaft] and it went on,but when i pulled the box back of this fell out.
Image
and behind it is another spigot bearing 8O ,
Image
this new one looks a bigger centre so i tried to fit the m40 box with no joy,the box goes on but jams on the bearing and wont push flush to the block :cens:

i need to order an m40 spigot bearing and get the other one out

the m40 shaft is about 14-15 mm ?

p*ssed off with hi-cups it's straight on to sealing shit zaust welds up with......yep more weld and get the bushes in so off to Dezzy's
Image

all the welds were leaking  so i set Dez into work mode and stood back

Image

fit full front suspension tomorrow with p/s rack at last some progress will be made,

Cheers Dezzy m8 :thumb:

sorted :D i used the nut and bolt trick to pull the bearing to the front where it should be and found out it's the larger one same part # as the m40 one and the box plopped home :D :D
Image

someone had put a smaller spigot bearing in front of the original one pushing it back .

Image

now where did i put those gearbox bolts :snigger: :snigger:

I suspect you are dropping a bollock here Mick, the M42 box needs a 12mm spigot bearing, the M50 uses a 15mm. You should try that smaller one on the end of your box before fitting it.
It looks to me like the previous owner has fitted that bearing to use an E30 box, but couldnt be bothered to remove the original one

the pink one [smaller] will only fit on a 6-pot box,i'm using an m40 316i touring box bmw said it's the same part number as the m50 the m40 shaft is bigger than 12 mil,it's 15 mm.

m42 must be a smaller shaft if it fits 12mm spigot bearing :?

it's all bloody technical

my IS box had a crunchie 2nd gear shift @ 6k and above :(

the m40 box is from touring whores car and is very silky,i tried it out vigorously before i decided to use it when i broke his car,it had only done 77k miles but it was scabby Queen. He used the car's Original box when he converted to m42 poowah .

i need some atf dexron 111 now
