Hey chaps, been away in e36 land for a bit but couldnt stay away, you cant beat an e30! Wish i could get into my original account but never mind,on with the show!

I've been chasing this for a couple of months or so now.My mate at work's brother-in-law had it sitting outside his house since november when the tax and mot ran out.I had offered to buy it but he wasnt all that interested. Got a call last week to say i could have it for free if i removed it myself, result!

Originally i had been told it was a 316i,after a quick check on the Dvla's website( he lost the log book) it seems its a 318i,thought it was odd as it pulls so much better than my last 318 touring.

As said it had been sitting since november so it had a flat battery,a quick jump start later and it fired into life, the brakes were a little stiff so after a quick blast on a private road( obviously!) it was all systems go!

It does have a couple of small issues,it failed its mot on two things- a headlight bulb and a wiper blade 8O Bodywise its not too bad, does have some rust on one front wing,a small dent on the drivers side sill and door and some laquer peel on the rear 3/4 panel. Also needs a drivers seat as it torn in places.

This is the front wing that i'll be replacing, not the worst ive seen but its not pretty either-

You cant really see in this pic but there is some laquer peel under the window,if it wasnt for this i'd keep it red as the rest of the car looks good really.

As said im thinking of changing the colour seeing as though i'll be changing the front wing, drivers door and sorting out the laquer peel. I painted my e36 touring matt black and did quite a good job so im thinking satin black for this one. If i can find the parts i want in its current red i may keep it as is,we'll have to see how that goes.

Plans then are to keep it simple, mot it and then the restoration can begin. Both my last tourings have been quite low with Alpina front spoilers,i like the look but sadly my wife will be driving this one so anything more than an is lip will be asking for trouble with its planned -40 drop!
I quite fancy a set of 15"BBS with black centres and polished lips,i have an emergency set of five spoke 17's that i can use in the meantime to be rid of the bottletops!

I'll update this as and when i have anything to report, til then here is my last touring that i should never have sold

Aside from my Bmc air filter, nope! I still have my e36 at the mo,its a 328i and extremely juicy, quick yes but im sick of pouring my wages into its fuel tank each month! I wanted this as its only a 318,still not great on fuel but better than what i have.I cant wait to get this on the road and wave goodbye to my e36 and 22mpg :?

Hello mate

As it was free I think you should do the right thing and pull the E36 apart to make it into a proper car :D

About time for an update i think. I had hoped to tell you all about my 21 year old car going straight through its mot but sadly it didnt.Between novembers mot and its latest one,it failed on a couple of more serious things, two front corroded brake pipes and a small bit of welding in the passenger footwell.Oh well, could have been worse i guess. I had these sorted as neither are jobs i could do myself, she got her fresh mot and six months tax and has been on the road for two weeks now. Im loving being back in an e30,it is much slower than the e36 but i just dont care, its so much more fun to drive!

I have put my satin black plan on hold for a while,i had a need to polish something so T-cut and colour restorer inhand,i attacked! The car was very badly faded when i got it,so much so that the door mirrors were completely pink! These i couldnt restore so i slapped some gloss black on my spare set and on they went. The rest of the car has come up really well, not perfect but good all the same. It still needs one front wing sorting, the rear valance needs work and the drivers side sill is still dented but so far i think ive done a good job.The black bonnet will be staying, was an mot thing as it had working washer jets but i like it too much to get rid and was quicker to swap bonnets than sort out a badly leaking washer fluid pipe that my slightly chubby fingers couldnt get to!

My lowering springs arrived last week, should have those and the temporary 17's fitted within the next couple of weeks. Also need to pop down to Adit's to collect a few bits too.Its getting there slowly!

With work commitments as they are at present, the only one I can say I'll definitely be at is Beaulieu although I'll try for a few more,
