When the car was ordered as an 325SE it would have come with comfort seats, these were upgraded to sports seats, the original cloth was antrazit.

The new owner specified the trim to be black leather with red piping on the seats, headrests and door cards, the rear bench was to be reformed into the shape of an M3 bench.

Sytners Nottingham despatched the car when it arrived from Germany to a local trimmers they used for such a purpose, i have spoken to this chap and he even remembers the car !!!!!

The trimmer did his bit and the car then returned to Sytners, the interior is unique and the trimmer has never done another rear bench conversion such as this, its a one off as is the paint.

You know of any 4 doors in Misano Red, the dealer principal at Sytner Nottingham was the partner of the woman who bought this car and he has since confirmed to me that he had to pull a few strings, cash in some favours at HQ in Germany to get the car painted this colour. The decision had to go before senior management to be approved, as you know Misano Red is an M3 colour only and normally cannot be specified for anything else.

I think it would spoil the whole concept of the car. Admitly the conversion is too in some respects but I think it's so perfectly retro.

BTW Paul smashing job mate!

100% agreed. With a story like that attached, it would be a crime to move away from what the original order was.

Yes me to. I think it needs to stay M20 and not the M52 that going in it.

The thing is it can always go back to M20 but Paul will enjoy it more with the M52 in it and if he doesn't pop the bonnet nobody will know anyhow, plus a standard M20B25 is nothing special but the colour and interior of this car are so to my mind he's preserving the unique parts whilst improving it in area's where he can.

Just my opinion of course :D

With a car done this standard, that bonnet will be open alot, especially at shows.

Originality is paramount to rarity but thats just my opinion.

A good TD crank based 2.7 would be a good compromise in this case i reckon.

Whilst i appreciate your views about originality in respect of the M20, i am looking forward to enjoying the M52 2.8 :D :D

Plus i would need to get all the brackets i had removed re-fitted, not an option just yet.

Thanks for all the kind comments :D :D

With the amount of digging Paul has done on this he could write a book, the interior is done to BMW standards, its nothing like your average bruved up seat retrim with brittle plastic pipings and half arsed leather, its a top class job and deserves to remain 8)

I agree on the interior but not on the M52. Will be awesome either way but i just feel it needs to retain the M20.

Agree with Barry on this, but i can fully inderstand why Paul is going down the M52 route. As has been said, at lesat the main unique selling points will remain.

Paul, do you reckon that trimmer would be able to make another rear bench in that style? Just a consideration with the demand for M3 rear benches at the moment and the lack of availability.

Not for my sport.

There is another engine i'm trying to get my hands on though for a future E30 project.

Its not 24V though! 8O

Jeez ratch..... Dealer fit and by a reputable and respected one at that so I reckon part of the history of what is an original car.... Let him get on with it. Would you put two extra doors into one of the original 3 two door tourings, just because that's how a touring should be?

Lads.

If the original owner ordered a massive plastic turd to be attached as a hood ornament, should that stay? Or if it had some other garish 'dealer fit' option? For me, dealer fit doesn't count. If it wasn't in BMWs options list, parts catalogue or at least from an approved Tuner or other period BMW model then it's molestation of the first degree - the fact that a Dealer Principal ordered the pimping means zilch.

It's because I love the car that I want to see the original owners taste 'corrected' and the car made into the example of awesomeness (spell check recognised this lol) it should always have had the chance to be.

We are not spamming, OPs love it when people get excited on their threads and we're ON TOPIC.

Diddler - I'm not too bothered as interiors are easily changeable, which I know you will one day sort out when something special enough surfaces. winkeye

That was yeeeeeears ago - they now sport fresh Orange goodness.

Do as I SAY not as I once DID.

You doth protest too much bro, for I know the dark hand of molestation hath disturbed your chariot in many ways.

Besides, clears are hardly on the same level as Red piping against Black leathers!

Ah, give over, it's his car. If he likes the interior then so be it.
I've seen much worse things on E30s in my time.

Excellent thread by the way Diddler. I'm loving the attention to detail and the no expense spared attitude. I'm sure nearly every E30 owner would love to be in a position to take something like this on.

That inerior looks superb. It's garish and OTT, but that's what the late eighties were all about. It's also how the car was when the first owner took it for it's first drive with number plates on.

Not sure about the M52 though.

Diddlers choice at the end of the day but i also would have reservations about not having the original M20 in this car, purely because of its "specialness" :P

Its arguably more special than a sport despite the excess doors in my opinion, purely for its uniqueness.
