Just ignore them Si and rest upon the fact you're not a complete oem homo

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

Better people?

I've whipped off a pina big brake and caliper for Keri WHSmith to have a play and see if a cheaper disc can be done. Just need to drop them off soon at his gaff.

Spent about 2 hours playing with all this, i can't believe it all clipped up nicely. the passenger side is chokka blok. Like a modern car with all the extra loom its sporting, compared to when it left the factory, with keep fit windows. Quick hoover out and its just the sound deadening now for the floor pan. I've also removed all the top and plug in looms to make life a bit easier fitting the carpet and not have looms dropping down in the way all the time! Hopefully its all there as i wouldn't want to add anything i've forgotton which i've checked and checked to be doublely sure.

Powelly carpet miester came round earlier to give the carpet a good scub, hoover first then out with the carpet cleaner stuff liberally squirted on

Then some wet vac action. It was actually really really clean. Must of had mats from new as it wasn't soiled or stained badly so really didn't need all this. Would be rude not to and it will smell nice!

In the lounge to dry, where else would it go for a few days?! Ready for the big day! Can't wait to get this fitted, sad but true

This pest is my main problem now as hes tried to sleep on it about 10 times all ready with that bloody white fur! Spent ages hoovering cat hair off it after i discovered he liked it when i first picked it up. As you can see Dave likes stupid places to get some kip

I must admit, my car is not exactly OEM in a lot of ways, but it HAS to have BMW fuses
let me know when you're popping down to see Keri, I might swing by and say hi

It rained today so i got another bite at the cherry!

Out with the real tools! well just making a start on the sound deadening for the rear footwells

My closest match for the curve on the corners! old 2.5 piston

Marked up

Cut, not a bad fit. I made them 300x490mm. Truth be told i could of gone 5-10 smaller for a really horny fit, but its under the carpet!

Heat gun it to shape

This new stuff from BMW doesn't come with glue on the back anymore to i sprayed some adhesive down for good measure

Repeat for other side

voila we are in business and ready for the carpet. I've got over half of this stuff left. I noticed M3s seem to have some on the rear shelf? I've thought this stuff is like dynamat and can help in this department later on, so i shall keep it

Twas pretty dry when i got in this morning, but this helped dry it a bit quicker!

Whilst i was waiting and checking that light drying the carpet every 10 mins. I p!ssed about with other bits. In a sad way last week i hunted down in the bentley manual all the torque settings for the running gear. Just to be a bit geeky really but my main reason was to double check that nothing was loose or forgotton etc. So now hopefully nothing will fall off when its driven for the first time! I did the rear last week, really quite boring micking about with torque wrenches. Always pays sometimes to double check

Trevor has kindly been plating again and heres some bits. Thanks. Agreed some of it should be silver but our brothers in South Africa had other ideas when they built their E30's! Alot more of the bits on SA cars are finished like these bits. Even the servo which i think looks pretty cool, i nearly kept one for this car!

I'm feeling it, either looks good. Top is OE european built. Bottom SA. Before people say the bonnet runners are silver, when do you see that and the catch together? You don't! cos the bonnet it up innit

Anyone remember or look at their car and see if i've got this on the rightway round please?!

Ta Da!!! i've taken 1 pic
What a f**king horrid job. I hate fitting carpets, this was no exception. The end result it nice but........those bloody 3 rubber tube/grommets for A/C box i posted the other day. Well the rubber just grips the foam on the carpet! Made it even worse sliding up the tunnel. Then i pulled one off, i won't comment any more. I didn't want to lube the tunnel like some people do, but that must help massively

I wanted to fit the plastic weather strips, which i can't because i need to buy new door weather/rubber strip thing. They really do shrink! This one is nice condition but its gone too small. They're £84 EACH from the dealer. So it can wait.

Being on a roll i've given this some action tonight also. Its minging and not fit for this wagon as is. So lets fettle the A/C, climate box! The ultimate factory option in E30 heating, also the heaviest

All in bits and leaves and bits of sh!t everywhere!

I tried to remove the loom but couldn't work it out, so left it like this and stripped the horrid old tape off.

Gave these bits a hoover, then the plastic bits a good wash and dry off. Also the main unit as best you can

Re taped up and now i have no more. 1 role has been enough to do most of the car really

Blower cleaned up, it span freely but i've given it a tickle with the spray grease and the resistor was good

fitting it all back together, if i didn't do it today i could see me forgetting how it all went. Its easy enough though. I've never stripped an e30 heater box down of any type till today funnily enough

All up together awaiting the finishing touches

New gaskets for the cream pie! A mucky old job to start but well worth it. I'll strip the box down a bit more as it won't fit as is becasue the A/C boxes are too big with the heater valve on!

If you want to lube anything like those rubber A/C drains Si use waxoil, it wont rust anything and repels water, dont get better than that!
Another tip, before that heater goes in get the matrix in the sink and wash all the crud out, I used kettle de-scaler in mine and couldnt believe the amount of shite that was stuck in it

Top work Si, that's some serious homo shizzle right there

Another brilliant use for kettle descaler is to remove that beige ceramic looking deposit from exhaust valves. pop them in an old pan and simmer for a while and it just softens and wipes offDanThe wrote:Another tip, before that heater goes in get the matrix in the sink and wash all the crud out, I used kettle de-scaler in mine and couldnt believe the amount of shite that was stuck in it

Dont they look a lot closer to being finished when the carpets go back in?
I started to clean my climate box up like that but it decided to jump on the floor lemming style whilst my back was turned, Broke a couple of small but very important parts of the box which are unrepairable so now i need a spare box but it seems like a regular aircon box can be converted to climate with the right parts. Was in a right huff on the way home that night.

It broke the heater box casing in two places both of which are flap pivots so they broke through the hole, i had the pieces but i came to the conclusion that even if could glue them chances are it would soon break off again meaning the dash would have to come back out. I may have one sorted from billgates but am still keeping my ear to the ground for one particularly if someone has just the casing spare.Theo wrote: Matt, what parts did you break on your climate box?

No i bought it off e30topless in about April last year i think Glenn. I'd given up all hope of ever finding a factory black carpet. I've still got the grey one i was going to use instead but patience paid off in the end!
So the whole interior will be black. Is that too much? nah I'm going to dye the rear parcel shelf. I did it on my old sport and it came out well.

Heres the original thread March 2006. But i bought it in, Feb 2006 in think*
Matt i have about 4 heater boxes here in a all guises. stock, climate, A/C so if the others can't help i should be able to
I'm glad to see others faith is returning about seeing a new tax disc in the window! 2011 it happens
Dan i thought earlier about some flushing action would be a good idea for the matrix, yours is one step better

try £1500 in panels! i didnt know then what i do now.
I always thought LHD carpets can be had still, they were £300 but since E30's went mobile tradition the prices for evertyhing have gone spastic from BMW but worth a check.

A/C retrofit looks to be a pig of a job, I guess I should be happy mine is there already....
I was thinking of removing it because didn't bother much about retrofitting it to r134, but I may as well keep it and convert it !
Keep up the good job Simon, nearly there !
