The engine is in but it won't start!
When ignition is turned on I can't hear the fuel pump engaging but I have wired the green-purple wires up on c101
The engine turns over freely but will not spark!
Please help

Take us back to basics dude
What car is it going in, was it an injection car originally or a carb?
I'm afraid I'm as much use with wiring as tits on a fish, but I'll help where I can
So you've got no spark or fuel?

The car is originaly a 320i motron 1.3
When ignition is turned on the fuel pump does not prime, I have had the back bench out and jumped 2 wires to the pump and it works and delivers fuel. But won't with the ignition!
The engine will turn over freely but nothing!
I took a coil pack out and turned over but no spark!
Everything is wired up as per brianmoores chart

Does it need EWS? The pump should prime if your wiring is correct

There are 2 that come from the loom with loop connectors on. 1 is a brown so I put it to earth, the other has 4 wires that come from the ecu connector, I have earthed that also

yep, both of those should be earth. and you should have 3 power wires, a main power, power to the fuse box and power to the ecu. from memory the ecu power is red and joins about 5 other wires in the engine loom with a yellow cap.

Yes, the group of 4 are from memory brown, brown-yellow ect... When these were put to live on battery the ignition lights come on with ignition in off position but the abs ect clicks like the ignition is being turned on, when those wires are put to earth and igniton is turned on the abs does not click!

yes, the group of brown or black wires are earth. but you should also have a RED wire coming out of your engine loom, this joins up inside the engine loom with 4 or 5 other RED wires covered with a yellow cap. have you got this connected to the battery?e30-dk wrote:Yes, the group of 4 are from memory brown, brown-yellow ect... Not as far as I know mate, I know the group your on about tho! On the e34 loom there is 3 relays on a sort of rail and the 4th has 1 thick red wire on a sort of block, I have fed that through the bulkhead with the said relays and zip tied it up out of the way.
Please don't tell me THAT goes to the battery or I will boot myself!! LOL

yep, that goes to the battery
it might be bolted to a black plastic clip with a 10mm bolt, you really want the 3 relays up in the engine bay anyway. they clip into the 4 pot wiring cover and look right at home

Oh my fekkin god!! Haha. Yes its on the very block you described but I could not see a way off connecting it to the battery so I put it out of the way! The relays have been extended so that they sit under my wheel along with the ecu.
So I take it when I connect that the fuel pump will prime and I will have spark to the coils?
There is 3 wires going to each coil and I checked them with an electrical tester and 1 had power, I take it the other ones are earth and ecu power to coils?

Nice one!
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
