a fair days work today. Not as far as I would have liked but the fuel tanks in, plumbed up, heats sheilds re fiited, beams in and diffs in.

But started with the snapped stud which the rear spire nut secures the exhaust backbox heat sheild in place. Riv nut to the rescue again with photos this time :D

Heres the tool in place

Image

Heres the fixing secured into the pre drillled hole

Image

and the heat shield ain't going no where!

Image

Fuel tanks in and time to plumb the fuel filter and join up with the new pipes.

Image

'friad it's a bit OEM Homo again!!! The fuel filter backet is one of a few I plated up earlier this year.

Image

and with filter in and plumbed up

Image

Image

Then came something I was in two minds whether to do. I went for it in the end and got the waxoil kit out and protected the edge of the fuel tank. We all know these rot so best try to keep it at bay. I did the top befor it went in along with the box areas to the sides around the beam mounts.

Image

Image

Next came the heat shields with my newly plated brackets
Image

Image

The beam went in a treat and I reckon looks okay.

Image

Followed by a refurbed 3:64 LSD with M3 mount. The casing has already started rusting but where do you draw the line!!!!!!

Image

Image

and the prop rebolted up with newly plated nuts.

Image

And thats where I left her today. Wanted to get the arms in but I've lost the bloody rubber link pipe from the filler neck to the tank!!!! :x As it is I'kll have to work around the beam! Before that though a light dusting of waxoil over the boot floor will protect the old thing for a bit longer.

You sir are never a pain, it's always a pleasure.

Bought one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zinc-Electroplati ... 3cb364152c

It's a bit Chad Valley and a bit hit and miss but if you take yiour time and do exactly as the instructions state, the above is achievable.

Hope that helps mate.

The kit will be set up tomorrow to replate and passivate the bracket for the cruise as well as a few bits for Si's c2.7 resto.

The car WILL be back on 4 wheels by this time next week. :D I have 2 days set aside to complete the rear end overhaul. Roll on spring for the MOT.

Also bought the following for it to detail it a bit more.

New throttle pedal
All new screws and clips for the inner arch protectors on the front
New white knurled nut for the throttle cable (need to order another for the cruise when it's fitted)
New TRANSISTORIZED sticker for the coil
New Alpinwiess 2 sticker for the NS front turret
New Running In label for the windscreen
New clips for the top of the grilles

More very soon..................

Hello Trev

Did you use any of the acid pickle baths from ebay to clean up the old bolts first or just bought new bolts and plated them? The Zinc plated stuff you are producing looks like the quality that BMW should be supplying now not the hit and miss I have found when ordering new shiny bolts.

Thanks

Scott

No. Go to Tescos and buy two 2.5 litre plastic cotainers of Sarsons Vinegar. Soak parts until clean. Some rusty parts will leave some pitting but so will an acid bath.

managed to get some plating done last night so here, as a preview for when I hand them to Si tomorrow night

The following for the infamous c2.7 rebuild

1 x coil bracket
2 x bonnet location plates (only 1 shown the other was drying)
Alternator bolt with cog and nut
1 x brake pipe bracket
1 x wiring bracket for side of battery tray.
and
My cruise activator bracket.

Image

And heres the parts I just bought inc that coil sticker Si.

I've also just started work on a genuine excellent alternator I have here. I've stripped the pulley off it and replated the nut and washers / spacers in yellow passivated finish and the main fan blade I've tried the blue passivated finish whick gives a cross between a galvanised colour and zinc plate. Quite pleased. Once the unit is cleaned and reasembled I'll post up the completed photos. My alternator in the car has a slightly noisy bearing so this will do the trick.

A few shots for todays action. Got the arms back on and I have the f*cking scars to prove it :x

Had the offside on a jack manouvoring into position, laying under it and the cow fell off the jack and cut my head and ear open!!!!! What a c*nt!!

Still, the arms are on, Handbrake adjusted, looms clipped up, fuel filler plumbed in and the driveshafts semi in before I collapsed into a heap and came home. Too many late nights on the p1ss over xmas I reckon.

Apologies for the photos, camera has a fault it appears and didn't realise until I got home. It seems the camera and the car fought me today. Back over there on Friday to get it on all fours, fit the exhaust, Sort the brakepipe at the front end and breed the brakes.

They are just the originals refurbed. I didn't even think about buying new when theres nowt wrong with the ones I have. The only thing that is not original are that the boot clips would be silver.

Sorry to be a pedantic mo fo Trev but the bonnet guide roller bracket things are not meant to be plated.

Unless thats an OEM homo award winning mod?

While we're being pedantic (i didn't start it! :) ) it looks like that plating is on those rollers is: Zinc plate with a colour passivate. Most of the 'silver' BMW parts are a zinc plate with a clear passivate.

Is there an alternative passivate that can be used with that kit?
