hardly surprising considering the origins of the mini engine.

Can't see it lasting. How long did BMW hold onto Rover before they realised it was a no hope piece of shit?

Imo BMW only bought that lot so it could find out how the running gear worked on the range rover so they could build there X5B7 wrote:Can't see it lasting. How long did BMW hold onto Rover before they realised it was a no hope piece of shit?

The thing is though its cheaper for BMW to buy in an engine for the mini than it is to develope one to fit into it.zaust wrote:Have a read up about bmw's 3.0 oil burner. That might supprise you. I have worked for PSA for year's now, And I have to say we supply at least one engine to almost every manafacture on the globe.

I strongly dissagree with that!zaust wrote:That's why there's no such thing as a bad car anymore.
The current Mini's engine (a peugeot based unit) is quite problematic with timing chain failiures, various oil leaks, ater pump and water pump friction wheels are just a few very common problems they suffer from.
I have even seen one with about 90k on it and the valve seat fell out and caused all sorts of damage.
Modern Renault products are just ablsolute rubbish and no doubt PSA shite is the same.

Surely it would have been easier to pick one up off the hard shoulder ? Slip the AA driver a few quid and drag the festering turd up to Bracknell and out with the prybars ,chisels and camera!

Ahh yeah the timming chain faliure, they seemed to cure it before it went to the ds3. What about the new eco 5 engine problem. Ha ha, Here's a leak for you then. The engine production has been haluted due to the Front crank pully shear's off it's retainer. Result, now I have cutomers who wnted there cars for christmas and new year but won't see them till gone march if all goes to plan...
End of the day I will not own a forged mini or a psa car ever again (had a bx and 205)

Yes, but Rover was a dead brand built in hopeless old factories. PSA are a massive and very successful manufacturer.B7 wrote:Can't see it lasting. How long did BMW hold onto Rover before they realised it was a no hope piece of shit?

So in a round about way I work for the french govermen

To be fair, if we're talking about solid engineering and reliability, the boat anchors due have the edge on french scrap. 20+ years on and it's going strong. whereas most later engines are probably made out of recycled french cars by now!town325i wrote:No but you will own a prehistoric boat anchor
