Was fitting a new one that jon sent me, and like a true cock juggling thunder cunt, I did it with the ignition on. As a result, SOMETHING went crack, and the light went out. The fuse is fine, the bulb is fine and the switch is fine, so can anyone shed some light on what the hell i have blown up??

Was pissed off so went and tried to find out in the other car, and blew that one up too!! Talk about not learning from your mistakes. What a numpty!

Fair chance it was the fuse that went crack. 21 on early cars, 4 on later ones.

when removing or fitting make sure to remove the fuse or disconnect the battery, as its perm live and will short on the glovebox latch on removal unless you are really careful not to let the connector touch the metal latch

yup thats exactly what i have done, twice!! what have i shorted out, because the fuses all looked fine and the interior lights on the same circuit all worked fine. I am perplexed!! Tested the switch and bulb on a seperate circuit and they both work fine!! What have I done!!

You may have melted the spring that holds the bulb in place

yeah it does mate that's what is so weird, each individual component is fine, bulb, switch and fuse, and it worked in the other car until I blew that one up aswell, that is why im SOO confused!

If you don't re-assemble the spring and washer's correctly they cause a short.
This problem came up the other week and no one could find a diagram then either

ok, and u have swapped the fuses round in each car?

then what about testing the wires for electical current, if one dont work, then u have burned one up.. :(

then all u have to do (yeah easy  ) is trace the wire up to the junction / fuse box and change it

yeah i guess so, im just a bit shit with wiring and electronics and all that. seems weird though that you can burn some wires up that easily. Thought maybe there's an inline fuse??

There's only one inline fuse on a facelift E30, and it's nothing to do with any lights.
