finished my m52 conversion,started the car and ooops,it has strange ticking/knocking noise,can't really tell where it's coming from :cry:
engine was 100% good before i took it out from an e39.

Could be any number of things, exhaust manifold leaking, flywheel catching on sump, something not done up properly like engine mount, exhaust rubbing on something etc etc etc

Did you remove the sump baffles?
Got cable ties? Get diffin..

Ticking and knocking are two very different noises.

How long had it been out of the 5 before you started again in the E30? My guess is a sticky lifter or two, common if the engine has been sat dry for a long time

well it's more like knocking,and yes it sat dry for about 12 months

oh no :mad: are u saying crankshaft is touching it?is it possible to remove the sump without removing engine?

Not all E34 sumps have them though, only the 2 litres

If you left the pressed steel scraper plate on you wouldnt have been able to fit the sump with that baffle

You must have used a 525 sump then which doesnt have the baffle
