Decals made... What do you think?...

Had these decals cut, just wondering if anyone thinks it's "allowable" to put on my e30.

They are just my zone user name, thought it might add some personality, and spot me out to other zoners at future meets. hey are dark, so won't stand out too much, but still noticable on clear glass.

Thinking of using the black one for my rear window, up top. Not sure what to use the hollow one for... Toolbox or something? (not the boot tool case, of course)

I do value others' opinions, that's why I asked

Looking at it, they are just a bit big, especially the hollow one. I got them for free, however . I got the two pilots' names for my jet made out, and there was a lot of extra space on the machine, so the guy printed (well, cut) out these for me. Anyone here of Gerber? Brand/company of the machine and material.

Well, being used on aircraft capable of over mach 3, I would suppose they should last nearly as long on my car...?

Maybe I should explain...

I'm a Crew Chief for this jet. While it's on the ground, I am the overall responsible person for it. Most anything done needs to be routed through me (but usually ends up being me that does it... )

One thing that we do, is get the pilots' names made up to put on the left side of the jet, under the canopy sill (front seater is actual pilot, and back seater is weapons system officer, or WSO. We call them "Wizzo"). Then the Crew Chiefs' names go on the right side, same place (the lead crew chief being the Dedicated Crew Chief, DCC; and the Assistant DCC, ADCC)

Sorry to say a Harrier sounds better, they used to do touch and go landings over my old house in Saudi, one day Harriers next day F15/16s...Harriers rule the noise battle!

Harriers win the noise battle for sure! But forget F-16's, friggin' lawn darts.

sorry I am talking out of my arse! it was F15/16s and Tornadoes, they used to alternate each day. was quite cool to see them swoop down over head touch down then full afterburner and off away...makes you understand how folk on the ground stand little chance when one of these are serious about blowing you away!!

and for info the 1st generation Harrier was removed from RAF service in about 2007, the second generation Harrier is still in service in both UK and US (although the US version is not made by BAE, its made by McDonald Douglas.) - todays interesting fact

BAE? hmm... "British Aerospace Engineering?" just taking a stab at the acronym. Yeah, most of the US's aircraft are made by McDonald Douglas or Boeing. Seem to think there was another, but these two are the major ones, especially for military.

The F-15 sorta fits into it's own class, as does the E30, I've noticed. There is definitely better, superior counter parts of them both, (the F-22, or a new porche). But there's not much, of their respective ages, that can stand next to them (the old F-4's, or an 80's Nissan)

BAE is indeed British Aerospace rebadged as most UK companies did in early 90's/late 80's. Hence why BP is no longer British Peroleum, the rebrandind was an effort to portay an more international image.

Oh, believe me, I would. The hours are horrible (since we are paid salary, no one cares) and the responsibility is huge! Every day, two people put their lives in my hands, as to the quality of work I have done. The government puts a multi-million dollar fighter aircraft under my exclusive control... And I'm only an E-3! (3rd enlisted rank). Many high up enlisted senior NCO's and even many officers don't carry the amount of responsibility that a Crew Chief does (or any other maintenance career).

Yeah, sorry for the off topic. But I do know what pub talk is... . Never heard of "saloon" talk. Sounds old, like the "Wild West"

Regarding the stickers most Brits will roll their eyes at them, comes from being sarcastic and fully emersing ourselves in irony at any given point.
But I'd say go for it, its yours and for YOU to enjoy.
Maybe a little smaller ie 1" high then anyone has to get all up close and personal.

Keep up the good work and if a 'spare' engine is available please consider me first.

Please ignore this if it does in anyway contravene security issues.
Just thought that if the worst does happen it could make even more of a mess with a belly full of sparrows/sidewinders especially at over $100K a pop.

I don't know for sure about RAF flying with live weapons or not, but USAF sure doesn't. I believe it's part of our SOFA (status of forces agreement... rules that we have to follow to be operational in your country). I can't go into it too deep on what we carry, but nothing live is a given. We have the radar and targeting systems that do basically the same. Can lock onto a car traveling on the road below thousands of feet in the air. Can't fire nothing, however. Dummy armaments don't even have propulsion; or as for bombs, targeting systems to guide after jettison.

The jamming thing sounds reasonable, as our F-22's do the same thing.

And being a training mission, I wouldn't think even RAF would be flying hot like that. They would be practicing with friendlies, so what would happen with a simple, accidental press of the wrong button? Someone that has gone though thousands/millions of dollars/pounds to be trained and qualified may very well be KIA (or rather, killed in practice) and on top of that, the multi million aircraft as well. The article probably meant to say, that the pilot realized it locked onto/jammed a police radar, and he just released the lock and jam from it to keep from interfering with their work.

my dad (R.I.P) used to work on the engines of the BAC electric lightning while in the RAF, i used to go with him to the base on occasion as a kid and the noise on take off was phenominal

Thats the way I feel with the F-15's taking off. In after-burner, each motor is punching out nearly 30,000 pounds of thrust. The sound is almost deafening, but you can feel the ground shake under your feet if can get anywhere close (as I do often working at EOR (end of runway))

No worries on tickets, mate, you and your mates can come to the base and watch for free! I'll have to look up the roads you need to follow, but there is a designated viewing area right at the perimeter fence, right at EOR. At that end, you will be able to watch the jets' staging area before takeoff, and watch them come in low over your head as they land. <--- This is assuming that the wind isn't doing anything funny.

If you get your guys together and decide on a date, shoot another reply on here, or a pm and I'll see if we are flying regularly. There have been some 'exercises' we have been doing at work that change the whole flying schedule.
