But dont you need to change the whole loom first.e30shed wrote:You might have a high comp engine if its an '88 - possibly 174 bhp![]()

No loom change required. I got a 173 ecu from an E34 525i for about £20 from ebay, and an Alpina copy chip from a Zoner for £15. Fitted them myself without really knowing what I was doing, took 20 mins. Now have a small increase in BHP,better throttle response and a higher rev limit, no brainer.Blitz wrote:But dont you need to change the whole loom first.e30shed wrote:You might have a high comp engine if its an '88 - possibly 174 bhp![]()

If you still or ever had 171 your very lucky. No one can tell you what bhp your engine has. Only the dyno rollers and they arnt completely accurate.

Flywheel as it's a higher figure (more consumer impressing)
If I get the ECU has it got to be chiped or can I just plug it straight in?e30shed wrote:No loom change required. If your on a 073 ecu set up now and you have two fly wheel sensors at the gearbox end (by the starter) Then it is worth doing. It is a case of swapping the engine looms over along with the front pully /crank sensor, brackets ect.. If it is a 172 or 173 in there, then just get a chip off of Ant or speedtouch.gafta wrote:Hey ppl, I hoping to do this ecu convertion on my 325i , I have been told it's a facelift engine ( not the good one), can the e34 ecu 173 fit this engine and make a diffrence by chipping it? My old one E605UAX was an early one, it had the dim dip lights from the first 6 months of facelift production. Dead now

I've got an E plate Alpina C2 2.5 Touring, it was supposably the demonstrator for the dealer back in the day. Sytner have confirmed it's an original car in writing and have stated the conversion took place in sept 1988.

Likley hood is that you have a late engine, Where are you crank sensor/s as this will determin what managment you need. Or no one can tell you which ecu to get. And yes if you have a later set up then a e34 525 ecu will work. But still need you to awnser or take a few pic's of the engine.
