I think it was available from when the E30 was introduced and was standard on 325i's from late '85.

All M3's had ABS.

Do the M3's have a different ABS set-up Barry or are they all the same?

I just checked the part numbers on realoem and all E30 ABS parts are interchangeable.

Sensors, ECU and hydrolic unit are the same from a 316i to an M3.

The trigger rings on the hubs maybe different between 5 stud and 4 stud but all E30 M3's had ABS so that not a problem.

EDIT! Just remembered that early E30 ABS ECU's had a seperate relay.

Best bet is to check the part numbers.

No problem.

One other thing to take into consideration is the loom.

From what i have seen, its part of the main body loom and not seperate.

Don't think the loom i'm using has ABS connections so that puts an end to that then :)

i've driven cars 17 yrs with and without abs.
i'd rather not rely on a part or multiple parts that at some point will fail!

my mk11 scort never had abs :P

Ive never seen an E30 ABS system fail other than corroded trigger rings or failed ECU or ECU relays from jump starting.

Both down to missuse or neglect.

Will have a ABS symbol in the instrument cluster and will also have a ABS ECU, behind the glovebox i think.

My cluster has been replaced a few times so I would not know.

Even when I was doing the snow pics with my old man earlier this year I never noticed the wheels skidding even when I was stopping after we finished taking the power slide pics. I am sure mine has not got it and with my large frame looking down into the glove box requires the flexability of my rubber cheque book!

If you lift the rear seat base off, you should see the rear sensors on either side :?:

ABS pump should be in the engine bay with metal tubes coming out of it.

Next to the airbox.

Hopefully Simon won't mind, Dan on this pic see where all the brake pipes are ending behind the headlight on the nearside?
That where the ABS unit lives. If it's there you have it. Of its not you don't. :D

They all have the symbol, but you can't see it if it isn't lit up. The ABS light on all such equipped cars should light up when the ignition is switched on, and go out after the engine is started.
