+1

well said Dez..
Im not saying you should lick someones arse, all im saying is a lot of people post pics of their cars because they are proud of them and like to show what work they have done to them. I myself like to see other zoners cars and what they have done to them. Some arent to my taste but if thats the way the owner wants their car that should be respected.

A lot of guys spend a lot of time and money on their pride and joy and to have people just shoot them down in flames and post insulting comments is not on in my eye.
My take on what Jaymos is saying is that there are ways of saying that you dont like another's car that will cause friction, and there are ways that wont...

As an old skooler from mid 2003 myself, I think it is always the way with electronic communcations, such as forums, emails, texts etc that sentiment gets lost sometimes. However when people post up their motors or ask for opinions there is no need to be rude about them, just say it's not to my taste, nothing wrong with honesty. Not you are a scum sucking low life for not fitting parts that me and my "gang" approve of. The zone has got progressively worse for that and it has put off alot of new people and a number of the decent old skoolers that used to frequent the place more regularly I suspect. There also appear to be large number of people who jump on a bandwagon and offer their daft opinion or something they have read somewhere else when really they should just keep it to themselves ! think before you post eh ? using Jon's simple guide above.

Banter is very important for making the place more enjoyable though and certainly should not be discouraged. People do need to lighten up and not be so touchy !

Having said all that, I still come back here quite often as I have made some good friends here over time and it's always nice to catch up, I suspect I will have another E30 before too long as well as no one talks to me now I have an E28

I also agree with bringing back Jon B and making Pete a mod

exactly what im trying to say, why is there a need to be so rude and nasty about someones car, if its not to your taste just say that or dont say anything.

Can I just ask, why would "Bonkers" be such an asset that will be sorely missed? The hammering he got seemed out of order, but I didn't envisage him popping into tech help to answer questions on blown fuses, or turning up to shows, or offering another member a critical missing part for their car that he had lying around the shed.

Other than that, someone else has said my feelings - the zone is alright as it is. Maybe is not as good as it was in the old days (what ever is?), but it's been top banana from my perspective.

On the zone, some people are decent, some are total wankers. There's an in-crowd that gets away with murder, and there's newbies who get unjustified levels of abuse. Just like real life.

i was on another forum the other day(non bmw) and i asked the dreaded question of someone's opinion, i asked about service parts (after i had searched the 'shop') i asked what oils and plugs were prefered. the first response i had was oh look another noobie with a 'what do i do question' . after several arguements one said "how dare you speak to me like that, you've been on here 5 mins and iv'e been here years, look at my post count"

i told him he was a post whore, and everyone jumped on my back and slagged me off, (the bloke was from quite close and i said if he wanted to mouth off to me we should meet up in person he declined) after three pages the mod stepped in,( after that bloke said to the mod i had threatened him???) so i had a go at him for this disgraceful forum and how its run, he deleted the thread.

i have had had my fair share of crap given to me on this site, alot to do with my 'council ways' and lots of spot lights, and the orange paint etc, also on some of my views, on stuff like 325 vs 325 sport, hottuning vs btb etc.

i have found there is certain people on this forum who do most of the arguing, i have in the past had heated posts with eg jonbmw, but when all said and done at the next meet we talked, ( it was on that subject then it was finished , moved on) some don't though, its personal to them somehow, and if who they are arguing with dare to answer back with a different opinion, they get personal abuse.

i will admit also i have at times have been too aggressive and said bad stuff ( and offered to back it up too) almost got banned too, but i have never looked down on someone with a low post count.

as for spamming there are those who pop up on a few posts then there are others who are on nearly all, while i agree adding good advice or opinion to a thread is helpful, some seem to need to post for the sake of it, a high post count does not mean you know what you are talking about???

we are lucky on this site to have so much knowledge and so many helpful people( i would like to think i am one as i have spent a lot of time under bonnets, sumps, doing gearboxes, brakes, engines etc at the drop of a hat) others are just out for what they can make from people on here

and this forum should be united as we all have love (degreeing levels) for the e30, i have found this to be the easiest site to be on and most of the time one of the friendliest, maybe some on here should look at different forums to see how they work , then come back an see e30zone is the best

I agree with all of that tbh

You wouldn't walk into a pub full of people you didn't know and expect everyone to talk to you and buy you a drink would you?

Talk about the few in the in croud who get away with murder is rubbish IMO.

There is some very funny banter on here which if lost because people can't take a bit of leg pulling would be utter sh1te.

but if people talked to others in a pub the way some do on here the would be picking their teeth up from the floor, there is a fine line between a bit of banter and taking the wee wee

If you post pics of your car on an open forum surely then its fair game.

You cant expect that just cos its your car people will lick your ass.
I personally dont care what anyone else thinks of my car. I know its how i want it and i know its Mint. winkeye

Yeah, if you post your car up then its open for anyone to comment, but the problem seems to be people dont know how to comment.
A car either gets praised or absolutely slated.

If you dont like what someone has done, you can always tell them in a constructive way or just keep it to yourself. Its one thing to say 'sorry but I think you should take those eyebrows off' (eyebrows was just an example before anyone takes offence :P ), but as above, most comments seem to be 'that looks shite, you must be a retard'.

Dezzy (sorry, Im gunna pick on you) - IMO I think you should lose the chrome, theres a white pre-facelift I see some days with black bumpers and a few other bits and it looks mean as hell.

I think thats much better than saying 'your car looks like a pile of.........' and much less likely to start an argument as jaymos said.

If a newbie posts his pride and joy up and a seasoned regular replies with 'ooh, nice bit of council scrap', hows the newbie meant to take it? He is new, and probably wont realise that the comment is meant in jest (hopefully), so its hardly surprising when they fire a comment back and it all kicks off.

A bit of thought from everyone about their posts and some respect for the other Zone users, regardless of how long they have been registered or size of the post count, would be a nice thing around here.

And hopefully thats my point.

I could of said - enter abuse/slating/slagging off here - about your car, but I have respect for other people on here so I thought about what to say.

Hopefully, if others think first we can avoid anymore problems on the Zone.

BTW, I do actually like your car, even the chrome wrongness bits :P

My point is and I may be alone here, it's only the Internet and if you had slated my car (because you were jeallous) then that's your opinion. I am sure your a nice guy but I don't know you. Why should I get all worked up about your opinion.
Also I don't slate alot of cars on here just Rav's and Gareth's and they know it's a leg pull.

Ps I like your car too :o:

Yeah I agree, but Jealous?? yeah ok
Seriously though, I wouldnt take it to heart either, but as you point out, we are all pretty much talking to strangers (something my mummy told me not do), so we dont know how our comments are going to affect others. People on here need to realise that the Zone just isnt about a few guys who know all the 'in' jokes, there are other people who join but it seems they get put off and leave before they get started.

I think of forums like a car filter. Lots of people pour their stuff into the filter, you can wait and see what comes out the other side, which is usually good or you can look into the filter and see what crap it caught. Certain peoples stuff will be caught in the filter so you skip over it, or you can wait and see what good comes out of it and on the Zone what comes out is gold coloured.

i have had had my fair share of crap given to me on this site, alot to do with my 'council ways' and lots of spot lights, and the orange paint etc, also on some of my views, on stuff like 325 vs 325 sport, hottuning vs btb etc.

i have found there is certain people on this forum who do most of the arguing, i have in the past had heated posts with eg jonbmw, but when all said and done at the next meet we talked, ( it was on that subject then it was finished , moved on) some don't though, its personal to them somehow, and if who they are arguing with dare to answer back with a different opinion, they get personal abuse.

i will admit also i have at times have been too aggressive and said bad stuff ( and offered to back it up too) almost got banned too, but i have never looked down on someone with a low post count.

as for spamming there are those who pop up on a few posts then there are others who are on nearly all, while i agree adding good advice or opinion to a thread is helpful, some seem to need to post for the sake of it, a high post count does not mean you know what you are talking about???

we are lucky on this site to have so much knowledge and so many helpful people( i would like to think i am one as i have spent a lot of time under bonnets, sumps, doing gearboxes, brakes, engines etc at the drop of a hat) others are just out for what they can make from people on here

and this forum should be united as we all have love (degreeing levels) for the e30, i have found this to be the easiest site to be on and most of the time one of the friendliest, maybe some on here should look at different forums to see how they work , then come back an see e30zone is the best
A very good precis !
