inherently the engine is an M50 block with an extra piece cast on to hold the injection pump, it is possible the starters are interchangeable, compare the part numbers on gsf's website would be a good idea.

The tank pump is not the same as a petrol one and are expensive and dealer only, well at least on my E36 325 TDS.

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

The only thing I know about E34 tds's is that you really don't want one with a dodgy fuel pump..

I loved my TDS but the fuel pump was on it's way out as when it got to a quarter of a tank and under it was difficult to start - but apparently this is a pretty easy fix.

The guy who bought my tds off me was from up your way - near Saltcoats/Kilmarnock and had a new pump fitted on both his tds's - pm me and I'll give you his email :D
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

The petrol lift pump will not do as the pressure is way too high.

I have a good diesel lift pump here, £40 posted.

Beware of the 4th injector leaking. My 325tds has this issue.

The leak is so bad that on part throttle No4 cylinder missfires giving vibration through the driveline.

A new injector from the dealer are £220 exchange.

At least my underbody will never rust, it's had so much diesel soaked underneath it's practically greased up.

Cheers,
