There are a few ways to do it...

1. Run the std E46 engine loom.. This is the most difficult as it requires huge amounts of un-picking looms, hiding away E46 electronics in the E30 and fooling the ECU into working.

2. Run S50B32 engine loom, ecu and management. This has been done a couple of times with a few tweaks here and there. Good results apparently.

3. Run an aftermarket ECU on a modified engine loom. You can buy and off the shelf kit, pre-mapped. You supply an exchange loom which has a surcharge..

Otherwise, you get the engine in the same way you do an S50. New oil pump, M50 (E34) sump and oil pick up, E36 M50/S50 engine mount arms, E28 M5 engine mount rubbers, E36 M3 radiator etc etc..

hope this helps.
