to make the picture bigger i think you right click on it,then save to my pictures then go veiw it in there!I think you can enlarge it,but you may lose some of the quality
What about windscreen and headlight?
Have both spare if you need them?

If your 318i engine looks the same as the 316 then yes most parts including exhaust are the same, obviously apart from injection side of things

Right,
Your 316 is m10
Your 89 318i is m40
As your 316 is late bodied all body parts (lights screen etc etc) will be a straight swap.
Engine/ engine electrics/cooling etc etc will NOT SWAP! No chance completely different.
M10 exhaust will not fit m40s and visa versa.
I think the only thing you can swap is the gearbox, and that i'm not certain about.

If there is nothing wrong with the 89318i engine (which i doubt it as its an m40 and they are crap.....) then you should be fine, with lights and body work.
What is wrong with the 318i?

screen can be swapped, but hell of an effort...but if its on passenger side may not be MOT failure, depends how big it is.
Headlights, just swop the whole lot!
Exhaust, sounds to me as if its missing the gearbox support, this can be nicked from your 316.
m40 exhuast are pretty cheap really, might be able to get a second hand one from a breaker. but gsf copy ones are cheap and just about o.k
If the engines o.k and its manual then your halfway there.
You 316 is zinnober isn't it? I'll give you some dollars for the bonnet and wings and possibly more panels.....

easy enought to do
1,remove plastic insert(carefull not to snap it
2,run flat blade screwdriver around the edge of glass to release the seal
3,from inside car push the old screen out(use both feet its easier
4,place new screen equally spaced over the seal
5,use pallet knife/screwdriver and carefully run around the seal fliping it over the new screen
6,refit plastic trim(NIGHTMARE)
this is basically how i did mine,to read its a bit strange but its self explanitary when you do it,JUST BE CAREFULL and have patience,it took me about 3/4 hour
hope this helps

Sorry to piss on the parade but if the crack in the windscreen is coming up from the scuttle plate with no sign of stone chip damage it's normally caused by accident damage. The windscreen is designed to aid the torsional stiffness of the chassie, so if it's cracked it's telling you the cars twisted. Check the inner wing's for signs of repair and the shut lines along the bonnet and between front wing's and front doors for equal width all the way along.
There is NO nucleus.

from inside the car! You will see where the glass is stuck to the screen because it is a darker black, and makes a cracking noise when pushed outward with the screwdriver.eko wrote:

Have someone in front of the car to catch the screen if it should fall3,from inside car push the old screen out(use both feet its easier
Very true.! Washing up liquid helps. Push some of the outer edge into the notch then bit by bit run the screwdriver round the inside while pushing the trim into the slot as you go.6,refit plastic trim(NIGHTMARE)

Lay on the floor and have a look at the front panel behind the skirt, the skirt is a bolt on piece and easy enough to replace but the front panel would have to be welded in place and if it's not been replaced will show any signs of accident damage or indents where it's been pulled straight.
If it doesn't look good it may be worth putting the 18 in the red one (rust?)

Hi, Wayne - so, you've defo given up on the 316? - been reading this thread about 318i - if you change your mind, you are still welcome to the engine/box/prop (manual box) out of my 316 donor car if you want them. Just let me know, as I'm nearly done grabbing the bits off it I need, and as no one seems interested in the engine/box/prop etc, I'll leave em in when it goes to the scrappy. Still, seems a shame as the engine (and car) have full BMWSH up to 2000 miles ago.
Good luck anyway!!
