monday gone, i got my finger out and fitted this Alpina system thats been in the garage for 3 months.

Image

The sh!tter in the air, i haven't washed it since the MOT its going well!

Image
Image
Image

The pipe bore is 55mm on the alpina system 8O Same as a 540i systems! Funky X pipe at the front. The weight of it is epic, was a real struggle on my own. I bolted it up loosely together and worked back from the manifolds.

My lamba sensors are both in the manifolds, but on the alpina system it has a sensor behind the cats? Why the difference anyone know?

Image

Horrid gay little link pipes. Three times to get this right. To get all the nuts done up, one needs to be bolted to the manifold and the other to exhaust when you offer it up

Image
Image

Its really quite loud! Below 3000 rpm its majorly bassy, when you rag it the note dies off at high RPM and the engine note takes over. I like it, has a real 6 pot hmm when cruising along. The car revs much cleaner top end too 8) but alpina stuff always works. Defo the modern PYF replacement car now

M50 inlet next, Kos get my bloody flywheel back please! Some lower front springs wouldn't go amiss either its a bit too high

Some Alpina/US M3 cams would be nice. Get it all together in this and then transfer it into an E30!

Nice.

These cars do sound good, even with standard systems.

I will miss mine.

No cats, X pipe or resonator when M52's are fitted to E30's.

dan runs a centre box, bot sure about x pipes.

when i have centre section and de cat my compact i will be putting in an X pipe, i'll loose the resonator and put in a small centre box, otherwise it will be too loud.

I think a stock 2.5 system is too small bore for a 2.8

Doesn't mean its right or the best exhaust for the job though. Stock M52 2.8 pipes are 50mm, which is E30 M3 size/E30 Alpina. e30 325i systems are 44mm. The exhaust i've just put on which is a proven performance system is nearly 10mm bigger! So i'd be trying to get at least an M3 system on my M52 if i was doing a conversion. Just my logic but wtf do i know!

Yep, mine uses a standard 325i Scorpion system, no X pipe, when I can I will do a before and after dyno run with a 325i system and an M3 system, might even bodge an X piece in :D

More bodging this weekend! M50 inlet on

Image

Fuel rail bodgery!

Everything thats molested isn't seen. I've got a badly split throttle body pipe which needs replacing ASAP. So from that i can't say i've noticed any improvement bar a loss of low end grunt. But the e36coupers all say it needs a few weeks to let the ECU settle.

Lets hope so, the M20 fly and clutch will regain low end pick up i'm sure though

Dans the one to ask, i'm surprised you haven't done it a few times Tony?!

I'm doing another today there seems to be alot of ways of doing it using various M50/M52 parts all mixed up. As long as nothing fails off and theres no air leaks game on!

Dont remove the zyclon valve doing this mod !!

you will have a lot of oil in the intake, the oil and oil fumes need to be split so the oil has a trap and falls to the sump via the dipstick tube, the fumes only to the intake manifold.

the intake temp sensor must not be overlooked either, M50 unit is not the same as M52.
