how can I identify the lower compression type m20b25 engine?

without stripping is easy.

look @ the engine code. 25 6 k1 is KAT prep 8.8:1 Cr , 25 6E1 is 9.75:1 higher CR.

codes are intake side near the sump gasket face , easily seen with a torch and some wire brush action.
