Where do i start, i bought this cabby for £200 and wasnt sure wether to rip out the guts for another shell or to keep it but ive decided to keep it as from what ive seen its very rusty free exept the rear panel for an odd reason.

This is what it used to look like, a mix and match of facelift and pre facelift wrongness :puke: seems a shame considering its only done 90k

Image

Image

At the moment it looks like this, this is how i bought it, although its more complete now that in these pics as seller decided to put a lot back on for me

and this is how it looks at the min

Image

seller had tried to tidy up rear valance hence the painted wheel well

it was a bit of a bonus when i went and collected the car as the seller gave me loads of stuff, lights, carpets loads of seals, bits of trim etc etc, a boot cramed full

Ive inspected it for the usually rust and its perfect everywhere apart from the rear panel which has a load of odd small holes all over as you can see in the above picture, i will get them sorted non the less.

Plan is to get looking like a minty cab again, keep toying on the idea of selling the IS to fund a respray and new roof but i'am attached to the turd.

I asked cotswold For some details of the car when it left the factory and it appeared to have had a few nice extras from new

Image

To get it running again i need an oil cooler setup, rocker cover and fuel pump which i have now sourced, I'am going to do away with the oil cooler till i know the engine is sound and i'am going to screw the oil filter straight to the engine block like on the 320i's

been tinkering today

I'am picking up an interior in the next couple of weeks from a zoner in scotland, and i'am picking up a front valance next weekend and ive bought a chrome bumper. also sourced a white door too

Hopefully i will have it running next week :)

If i could afford it i would have bought a complete one

Welcome to the cabby world.

I did have the oppurtunity to buy this cab, but didn't have the space. Seems like a good project.

Whats the plans for it, simple re-build or a make over

Alex, that windscreen trim tool on ebay will not be any good. IIRC the ebay ones are good for mini's etc...

For a decent and not TOO expensive tool go to "woolies trim", although be warned it IS NOT a 10 minute job like some people say. Its a bloody pita of a job.

Its a shame I have just sold my tool, I would have posted it to you to use. :(

I'm sure the sides from a coupe can be modified slightly to fit.

Apparantly they dont fit at all, i could be wrong though. I would fit a tech 1 kit without the side skirts but not just a rear valance with the alpina front valance

Alpina kit is great. Its just bolt on Front and rear spoilers.

I would not want to drill holes in the sills to fit side skirts. Looks better without side skirts on Alpina's.

around £230 i think, although you can get a fibergash one for £60 depends on budget really, would be nice to get the proper thing or at least a decent used one..... Good luck to me.

Easiest thing would be to get the wheels and steering wheel

might just go for the oem look yet but i fancy something slightly different in an Oem sort of way

Small update, still not had chance to go round and get it running 8O

bought a front valance for £10 with what looked like 1 good foglight from leeds yesterday. Ive rubbed the underside down and any rusty areas back to clean metal, all clips etc were removed before hand, these will get replaced with new ones.

had a look at the fog light and found a small rusty patch on the back, i managed to ram a screw driver though it so its no good

On the front i scrubed it to death and cleaned it with white spirit, i also gave it a quick sanding down but i didnt want to loose the original finish, i rubbed back the bit that shows above the bumper though.

Image

Image

underside half resprayed

Image

front all primered

Image

So this is where i got to tonight, hopefully i will get some paint on tomorrow night.

Also decided to buy this genuine Alpina badge :D

Image

Also got some new chrome for around the windscreen

Looking great. 8)

I will be doing exactly the same with my front valance soon, as the rust is really starting to show through. What have you sprayed the back with? Did you use etch primer for the front? And then will you give it a top coat of alpine white?

Bet that badge cost you a pretty penny.....

Ah thats sounds nice and simple then. :D Mines is looking a bit miss match with touched up areas done with a brush and slightly different black.

Oh and good luck fitting that chrome trim. I hated that job, but it does give fantastic results.
