Although yes ebay is a civil contract. He has a duty to describe the car accurately.....if not he is in breach of contract and YOU could sue him for travelling costs.

Don't know if I agree with all you lot. You've got to take descriptions in adverts with a large pinch of salt, and read what's not there as well as what is, and you really shouldn't buy a car without seeing it first.
Youve got leather and fancy wheels for the money.
A lot of what you say doesn't work is only minor stuff that's about normal for poorly maintained E30s.
If the hydraulic tappets on the engine don't hammer away, then it's very likely that you've got a rebuilt head on it.
It only went for Ԛ£620, and as long as it's relatively rust free, then I don't think you had much to complain about, especially at the revised Ԛ£400 price.

brian i totally agree mate, at the end of the day it was 200miles away from my house and i would not have trusted it home dude, the engine was as noisy as anything....tap....tap....tap, if you read the advert mate none of the above faults were listed, if the guy was a genuine and decent fella surley with me driving all that way down would have told me there was a lot more wrong with it, it also was a rust bucket, rear arches are on there way and rear bootlid was rotten through as said above, it was a nail mate, im sad.... dont get me wrong i didnt expect a lot for the money but for Ԛ£600 i expected a lot more.... as you all know anyone can drop on a 4 pot touring for around 400 quid these days regardless of its condition, its just a shame this one was a heapBrianmoooore wrote:Don't know if I agree with all you lot. im merely saying some ppl (not necessarily you) expect too much at times.

no offence caused dude, i had big plans for it thats all, was gonna bang a 3.5 in it and what not, it just needed a lot of work doing to it thats all dude for the Ԛ£600 price tag, i didnt expect a minter by all means but this really is a nail, just wanted it mainly for that m-tec kit because they are so hard to get hold of but everything on the car was in apporling condition, i had not been looked after at all dude, i was like everytime i looked at the car i found somthing else the matter with it and all of these "little" jobs mount up to big money, a deffo full respray wouldnt have gone a miss either. ill just have to spen more cash thats all dude which i dont mind at all, its just that "kit" again thats gonna be the bitch to get hold ofChaos wrote:i can see where ur coming from yeah.TW166Y wrote:Chaos wrote: if genuine the mtech 2 kit is virtualy worth that

exactly dude this is what im saying, it would have cost that much money to put this heap off poo to the standard i would have liked it to be, what makes it worse it had 6 months m-o-t on it?????????? "wow" all these faults suddenly appearded within 6 months did they....... i dont think so, he was trying to pull on the wrong cock i think dude because i was having none of his bullsh@t, Ԛ£400 was too much for the car and too much of a risk at 200 miles away from home, if it packed out on me on the way home i would have had to leave it on the motorway, there will be better ones dude.... must admit though dude, dont know how i kept my cool... i can be pretty hot headed at times but i supprised myself by not slapping the guy on his fcuking conkjohnono wrote:twigs mate, gutted!why didnt u spark the knob for being rude, how did u keep your cool!?!

i know this doesn't help you, and that hindsight is a great thing...
but i can't understand people agreeing/bidding to buy cars without seeing them, i'd only do this on something sold as spares/repairs (i.e. very very cheap).
a lot of stuff on ebay you can accurately assess from a few photos, but not a car!
for the record i bought both my current cars (316i, m535i) unseen from ebay, but both spares/repairs and both very cheap (Ԛ£100, Ԛ£260). i'm not trying to boast in any way, just would never pay much more than that without viewing/driving. even at 260-odd for the m535 i though carefully before bidding and felt lucky that it was exactly as advertised.

i tend to only bid on cars on ebay that i know even if it has problems i can still get my money back on - if u see what i mean.Toby_Unna wrote:for the record i bought both my current cars (316i, m535i) unseen from ebay, but both spares/repairs and both very cheap (Ԛ£100, Ԛ£260). i'm not trying to boast in any way, just would never pay much more than that without viewing/driving. even at 260-odd for the m535 i though carefully before bidding and felt lucky that it was exactly as advertised.

you see dude thats the thing with ebay, even though the seller is "SUPPOSE" to describe the car exactly or anything he/she is selling just like you would with anything, i agree though, dont think ill ever buy another car through fleebay unless i know the car from my area or spares as you say, at the end of the day dude thats exactly what this car was "spare" there is no way it should have been on the road and was not fit to be eitherToby_Unna wrote:i know this doesn't help you, and that hindsight is a great thing...

That really is bad news about the tourer
I think you should speak to a lawyer about recovering the fuel/insurance costs - even if the money's not important it'll at least teach him something

I'm brand new here and don't mean to stick my nose in but surely this is supposed to be the reason for feedback.
Nearly 200miles is a long way to go to view a car, if the fella had 60 or 70% positive then you would not have bid on it. The fact that he has a pretty good feedback should imply that he is trustworthy.
Hope you find a good one soon,
Cheers,
Rich.
