We had one, 320A in Polaris Silver with M-tech 'go faster stripes'. Looked great actually (until the rust killed it).

Had really nice 13 inch BBS Mahle alloys which I sold number of years back for £100. Apparently they are now very desired (esp by the VW crew).

I had a looked around this car in the summer.
I was offered it for £350.
Gone through 2 owners who have no interest in restoring it.
Proper sad if you ask me.

Why do i have like them? You guys can, i don't go out of my way knock e21's. Why are poeple so defensive murran? Get over it, my opinion won't change a thing. So my post count means i'm a c0ck now does it, how childish

Re the roll bar thing a separate wishbone leaves the bar to do its real job, reduce roll

The E21 wasn't exactly a success for bmw, they worked hard on the E30 sort the vices of the 21 did they not? I know newer is better generally etc, but to me the e21 lacks that spark an e30 has

The E21 was produced for less years than the E30. The only BMW with longer production than the E30 was the E24...by a few months.

I like E21's, but i'll stick with my E30

BMW stopped the E21 production because of mercedes.. the E21 were only made in 2 door coupe and by then early eighties mercedes brought out the 190e in 4 door which was an entry level for a cheap mercedes and bmw had to compete with them then brought out the E30 4 door after making the 2 door.. its politics, i ve had three E30`s, Mtec 2 325, 318is and a 325i. nice solid driveable cars but i just get MORE RESPECT in my car which is the E21 and cars move over when i drive i get people all the time asking if i wanna sell it, i get coppers stopping me for a routine check ( my ars3) all they say is i " i used to have a car like this " e.t.c etc etc. . simple. i also drive a nissan micra 1 liter.. and thats the best car to have..... winkeye

Development of the E30 started in '77/'78.

Production of the 190E didn't start until November '82, two months after the E30.

BMW didn't stop production of the E21 because of mercedes, the stopped it because it was old!

Mercedes had the W123 long before the E30 though, with saloon, estate & coupe variants.

What you got to remember, alot of acceptable concept cars turns into production, the e21 was designed years back around 2002 model, in the R&D departments there are always leakage on designs going on and the e30 was competition with mercedes 190 back then unless what i was told is wrong.. however dont really care to be honest all i know is i along many e21 owners drive a true classic 3 series and bloody fast one.. im happy with that.. and i hate mercedes anyway, the bloody ignition barrel is the wrong side and annyoing... :D :D

....So is the wiper stalk, and the wing mirrors aren't the same size.

Why did Mercedes make the 190E confusing in places.

But they sold a lot of them and established a genre which is alive and well today. For what it was, the late 5 speed 316 was a pretty good car. The standard 323i is pretty flawed, but one with an LSD and the Bilstein suspension is still an entertaining car. The 143 bhp K jet 323i engine is also pretty gutsy.
In it's favour, the E21 has nicer steering and understeers less than an E30 - the E30 had a fair amount of understeer engineered in to tame the rear end.
The E30 is a nicer overall package but the E21 (mainly the 323i) was a more 'raw' drivers car - just very tricky on the limit.

I like e30's.

But I love my e21.

Coilovers and LSD with Toyo 888's sort the handling.

As has been pointed out, I am selling Josh's old 316 which I have spent a significant amount of cash on - not that I need to justify the price anyway. However, I have not just bought it and then re-advertised after adding a grand. I'm not sure how anyone would know what ''premium'' was added when you don't even know what I paid? :?
Don't let a little thing like facts get in the way though.

It's only going to fund an e12 528i although, to be honest, I'm happy enough to keep it as a daily in the winter months.

Mark your car is a credit to you.
I was in hospital at the weekend (Wife giving birth) and read the article on your orange E21 in Jan performance bm mag.

Wishing I had bought your E21 316 in the summer :D

You spent a grand on it then?.
