I know the mechanical auto has a cable operated kickdown but I'm not sure about the switchable box - maybe it has an electronic one. Search for a wire or cable coming from the button that the accelerator touches when it's fully depressed. Remove the lower portion of dashboard just below the steering wheel and have a good look.

There is a switch under the accelerator pedal, this is your kickdown switch, you do have to push quite hard to activate it (so assuming that is not the problem!) it is i an electrical contact so check it is not stuck or badly adjusted. (i.e. when on full throttle it should be depressed fully) if not then check the wiring etc. will look at mine to see where it goes.
