What are you going to put the M52 into as your Edirty6 will weigh more than a touring with the same power and less touque?

You may take all comers but only up your ar3e

Sounds like the 3.18IS v 3.25 debate all over again!!

which has left me REALLY confused because i was planning to do a M30 B35 conversion next year.. might just wait to see the results.

technically could you tune a "B35" to get more power on standard internals than an M52 b28?

personally i would prefer an m30 as they have stacks of low down grunt, but the fuel consumption puts me off :) there also really strong engines as they are based on the old m10

i think their ultimate performance limits are about the same. M52 has more valves, M30 has more cc's.

Not mine but Danthe's old m52 with alpina cams was running 243bhp not sure of the touque. Bhp doesn't tell the hole story but he also did 13.8 at pod. Can't see an m30 donk running them times with all that weight.

Old? Its only 3000 miles old Dez! 203 BHP at the wheels is what was measured, I was told by the guy that dyno'd it (via some autodata books) transmission loss would be between 40 -45 BHP
Cant find the print out now but torque was around 230 at the engine

yeah i would like to respond... im hoping for a minimum of 220bhp plus the dirty six although is heavier... it certainly handles well.. it should be a cracking day!!

In fairness the m50 E36 donna was a good handling car. The car I used for the moredoors motor. Much less tail happy than the E30. Almost too planted for my liking.
If we are going on what we are hoping for, I reckon 270 from the m50b30 when all s
is said and done. I could be dissapointed though.

what does one of those weigh? if it's about 1400kg, (like my uber lardy touring) it would be a good comparison between the engines with an equal weight. although thats one of the benefits to the M25 over the M30

If I remember correctly the start at 1330kg and go up depending on options. I stand to be corrected though. :D

mine obviously has sport spec.. no air con, no climate control, sunroof... so on the grand scale of things its not that loaded with options... although it has a slipper.

well i'm very likely to be doing the brands hatch trackday as it's local to me and should be a good laugh.
if you don't show, i'll take it as a moral victory :D

it will be interesting to see, i genuinely have no idea of the outcome, it just seems right to stick up for my engine choice :)

i may have gone M52 when i did my conversion but when i did it (4 years ago or thereabouts) they were megabucks in comparison.

Good debate, exactly what I need to decide what engine swap to do......

What sort of quarter times would an M30 & M52 do then, in a stripped E30?[/list]
