From pink to red

Evening all.

Got my self an off red (slighty pink!) 316i tourer.

I have tried T-cut and polish with some success.

Does anyone have advice on how to get it back to the original shiny red with out resorting to a respray.

Any advice welcomed.

make sure you use a good sealer when she returns to red

chuck the t-cut in the bin. you are hand polishing i take it, if so your in for a hard time.

It is a lot better than it was but you can still see patches of pink under the polish.

I am a total novice at this sort of thing!!

I have heard of cutting and rubbing compounds but I havent got a clue what to buy or where to get it from.

Could you give some clues.

Any advice given is really appreciated.

g3 if you got a mop if u havnt try g6 finer coumpound and can be done by hand but still hard work though were abouts are you im in southwales do full mops and wax for around £50

sorry, i was being sarcy. Im with the other guys. Mop and G3 followed by wax and sealant. Reds a siht colour for fading imo. If you buff it and leave it it will be pink again in a matter of weeks. Get it sealed. Try autosmarts silver seal product for example.

Leave the G3 on the shelf, it' very aggressive, if you have to use Farecla the G10 would be best by hand, G3 is for removing wetsanding marks G10 is more like a finsishing product, this is all you will need for removing oxidation, if it was my money I would prefer something from the 3M range or even Menzerna, these are the product I use when I'm working on customers cars, they use diminishing abbrasives so you don't run so much risk of damaging the paint you are trying to fix. As has already been said a sealant or wax with some sort of UV protection is what you need stop the fading in future, Zaino Z3 would be my choice, gives an incredible gloss and provides the UV protection you need.

Have a very good read of the polished bliss website, I get my products from them, I usually use menzerna polishes.

Where are you based? may get a memeber who can MOP it for you (i am based on Nottinghamshire / derbyshire border and may be able to help if you are local)

.....and then repeat every 2-3 weeks? It's faded back to pink already

yep every couple of weeks, only thing you can do unless you want to respray it

Not quite true, if you polish then seal it with a good wax or sealent the fading wont happen so soon.

If the wax is topped up it should last minimum 6 months, probably longer.

i suppose if your like me and regularly wax your car then its not a problem

i Have the same problem so if i wax it after it shouldnt go pink as quick? Or when you say sealent?

You need to remove the oxidised paint first and make sure the paint is clean, clay bar is the first step, then use an abbrasive polish to remove the oxidised paint, follow this up with a sealant, my preferance is Zaino Z3 mixed with Zaino ZFX, Z3 is designed specifically for use on non clear coated paint, it also contains UV protectants to protect against fading a bit like sun cream for cars, if you layer this initially with about 3 layers, use a decent quality shampoo and observe a good wash method you should get some good durabilty out of it.
