hi, had a bit of a fire in the engine bay and was wondering would i need to replace the entire wiring loom in the car, or does the engine loom unplug from the rest of the loom? Also any ideas on what caused this? :(

The engine loom just plugs in at the bulkhead plug mate.

Where is the fire damage?

i am not exactly sure where it started, could it have been a loose wire? how much would a replacement engine loom cost?

Best to get one off a zoner (look in the parts for sale section) make sure you get the right one, there are 2 types, early and late (early has 2 rows of ecu pins, late has 3).

Should be no more than 30 pounds

Could be electrical or petrol etc?

will any late model do, or does it have to be a 325i loom?

Thanks :)

The button and all the red lights above the rear view mirror, It tells you if any bulbs have failed or fluid levels are low.

The 2 engines I have taken out the engine loom plugs into the fuse box and the ECU multiway fits back through the firewall behind the dashboard on the right hand side. Provided the fire wasn't near the fusebox you should be able to replace just the engine loom. If the fusebox is gone too I think there is another big multiway behind the glovebox that you can disconnect to get the fusebox out.

The other issue is if you had a fire started from an electrical short you need to be careful that it hasn't fried any of the wiring in the car.

fusebox can`t be replaced its pretty much wired in, it would take less time to replace the whole loom

i would have a good look at the wiring that comes through the bulhead behind glovebox,

i had this on my old 320i the wiring had melted from the engine bay to fusebox and about 6 inches through into area behing glovebox.

i replaced the whole loom
