I'm still pondering "scrap yard raid" options to stiffen up the IS a bit more.

Really I need to fit new dampers as a first move and then see what I think.

The author of "modern engine tuning" reckons that fitting the beefiest anti roll bars is the way to go with car suspension. So I was wondering if the 320 or 325 sport got bigger ARBs than the 318is.

Having said that, the IS is such a nice rounded package as standard I'm quite tempted to leave it alone.

As far as I know the 318is has the same ARB's as the 325 Sport. Not 100% sure though.

325 sport and 318iS have same suspension exactly. Get some inverted bilstein dampers they are the best.

Your not gonna find anything in a scrapyard to make your iS handle better, u need to buy new stuff

All tourers have 20mm front ARB's as opposed to 18.5mm for the rest of the range. Not sure about the cabs though.

I have a 318is rear ARB and a 316i touring 20mm front ARB.

Cheers,

Would an E28 rear be the same shape?

325i sport and m3 arbs.... i have both and they appear to be the same diameter.... of course the front arrange, emt on the m3 is different cos of the droplinks attaching to the struts

Having them 'pick up' on the struts means there is a larger lever moment on the ARB.. In effect making it stiffer.. Why not weld on the tangs to take the M3 droplinks? I was gonna do this before I got my M3 running gear..

It's made my car loads faster sat there in the garden waiting for attention!

The simple way is to stick 2 ARBs together. Find another E30 ARB and then clip it together with the one you have on now with strong jubilee clips. Its cheap and it works good.

Not if I can find thicker anti roll bars and springs.
I agree, with things like bushes and dampers then new is the way to go.

If you can weld and drill you could feasibly make ajustable ARBS like racing cars, and just stick with the size you like.
