oh yes!! it was proper bad... the cat was @ucked so i got a new one.. mafs was disconnected, throttle boday and air filter were as black as the ace of spades..the plugs were @ucking orange!!! the coils were arcing out... so i bought a new set of bremi's, new bmw ngk plugs.. new air filter, throttlebody was cleaned, the scorpion exhaust was taken off and a standard one fitted.. i tried another mafs and the same results... its running better than it ever did now.. but not good enough... its reluctant to rev, as iv said compression is down on 3+4... its @ucked lol... and i believe the seller knew that the engine was shagged... hell when i test drove it the idle was up and down because the mafs wasnt connected... the speel i got was out of this world dan you should have heard it... the seller definatly knew what he was doing.. and made a tidy profit on my e30 and the extras i chucked in.. im just too honest mate... shame others arent. when i turned up the e30 was knocking on the drivers side... the bottom arm was fucked because we had to weld it to get me home.. i even went out and bought TWO NEW BOTTOM ARMS as a good will gesture... @uck i wish i hadnt bothered.
now my e30 has been sold again... and i recived a letter from the dvla the other day saying i was no longer the registered keeper.. no shit... mind you its a good way of keeping the number of owners down on the log book.

Now I am beginning to feel persecuted and wronged through your posts on this subject Tim, a bit like RSTurbo and his recently sold 325i Sport.

I did not deceive anybody, I believed that your car was as good as it could have been, after all my wife was using it daily for nearly a year. It ran absolutely superbly on the one ocassion that I drove it on a round trip of around 200 miles.

I told you all about its history as was told to me by the guy that sold it to me and bought a replacement engine that I had confirmed with BMW head office was not a Nikasil engine, and was a 328i Sport and had been put into the car that I bought it from. I even heard it running and it was fine.

We agreed that the tickover was a bit lumpy and you said it was not a problem as you would throw some money at it and get it sorted. You did after all get a very very strong rust free car with a very nice amount of factory MTech stuff on it for around £800 less than a car with full history that drove well.

You openly admitted on here that you have driven like a mad banshee since you owned it and even have a speeding fine to prove it.

As for the massive so called profit I made on your old car, I lost £100 on the Schitzer steering wheel and also had to have a fair amount of work to get the turd through its MOT as well as put six months tax on it.

Now be a good boy and grow up and shut up whinging on about this car, it is getting very tiresome.

Sounds like some serious neglect, have you got the compression test results? If the sensors have been disconnected the ECU will just pour fuel into the engine which in turn wears it away

i see... so me getting a speeding fine justifies the engine being filthy inside does it?? the car has ran better than it ever did since its been in my ownership... the fact that i give it a hard time is irrelivent.. i do however have the compression test results somewhere, this was done only a few weeks after me getting the turd... so that kinda blows your theroy of me thrashing it into the state its in.. as for the speeding?? 53 in a 30 is hardly excessive now is it??? .. i do however feel that you knew there were problems with the car at the time of the sale.. so what work was needed to get my car through?? you had the bottom arms... and a spring was snapped(i was totally un aware of) you even phoned and told me it failed on the mot due to the snapped spring(eibach)... i was as honest as the day is long with my e30.. you knew about the arches.. you knew everything.. the fact that you barely even looked at my e30 suggests that you werent too bothered as long as you got rid of the dirty six... so please stop making this out to be nothing.. im not shutting up about the shit box... grow up?? dont you mean take it up the ass and move on?? not likely.. i even phoned you to discuss the engine.. and you said you would give me some bread towards a new anchor ( good will gesture ) that hasnt materialised... and tbh i dont expect it to.
i will find these results of the compression test and post them.. it will have the date on too.

Tim do what you like sunshine, I am not really bothered about results of so called tests etc, you bought the car sold as seen and even enthused merrily on here for a few weeeks about what a great buy you had.

If you have nobbled the engine, and it is now nearly 6 months since you bought it, I am afraid that is down to you. I had a supposedly good secondhand engine put in it, no more can I do. It came from a 328i Sport and you even phoned me accusing me of it not being a 328 but a 325! Thats why I potentially offered a few bob as I was so shocked by what you said. You then went on after to say not to worry. I assume beacuse you found out you were wrong.

F**k me, every time someone sells a car on here somebody has to move heaven and earth to destroy peoples reputations.

The lovely E30 you sold me with supposedly £4000 worth of new parts was no oil painting I can tell you but you don't see me going on about there being more rust in the arches than your pictures showed do you?

The reason I did not look over your car was that I trusted your pictures and more importantly you!

I also recall seeing many a post from you about the silver 'turd' and all the money you had to spend on that. Please do not use your hankering for an E30 again as an excuse to down my wifes car or me.

Means diddly squat to me, I wouldn't even begin to know what that means, and even if I did, you bought a cheap 328i Sport.

true mike... i bought a cheap sport... on the grand scale of things it will proberbly end up the most expensive.. im not trying to destroy your reputation.. the compression test results for the engine give a clear indication its @ucked.. to give you an idea six lines should be near 200.. the lines represent the cylinders... in this case the car has six.. i could have drove the car on the limiter everywhere i went for the whole 17 days leading up to the compression test and they wouldnt be down by that much... its all to easy to say that you dont know what it means... arent you mechanically minded?? i thought you restored a bus?? so please dont come the i dont know what that means.. the coolant system has no pressure.. i guess you didnt sort it after all??
i got shafted... you come out ontop.. i guess honesty isnt always the best policy.. on the plus side it will have another engine.. the balljoint's will get done.. the spoiler will be binned.. a genuine one fitted.. the front and rear bumpers resprayed... and so on..
a lesson learnt as they say... but thanks for commenting.

Tim, thanks for your comments.

I restored a bus by sending it to Blackpool and throwing £16500 to a company there to do the job for me. I am no, and I mean no mechanic!

I am afraid that I come from the old school of if it ain't broke don't fix it. Gill drove that car for around 18 mils a day max at rush hour and in traffic to and from work. She wouldn't and, since I didn't use it, would have or could have known that there was anything whatsover wrong with it.

We sold it you in good faith and were happy that you said that she would be cherished and could afford to get any issues sorted.

I am sorry that I have had to comment and only have done so now due to the supposition that I knew I had sold you a pup. This is blatantly untrue and I have watched your posts with interest on the car because Gill is keen to see it survive and be looked after.

I wish you well with the getting back to mint kind of enthusiasm that you have for these cars and am not really happy that I have stooped to wingeing about your old car which is not in my nature. For that I apologise

Regards

Mike :)

thats fair enough mike... if you didnt know you didnt know.. surely the miss at idle would have given it away.. im no mechanic either... but i do however know enough to know that a miss at idle isnt good.. you missed out on the extra £100 for the Aachen steering wheel.. ebay is the luck of the draw.. you should have put a reserve on it.
the bottom arms alone cost me £100.. so i guess we are even there.
the massive hesitation when you plant your foot was evident when i drove it back.. its still there now.
my monetary situation is nothing to do with anyone but me and my wife.. i work hard and play harder and my outgoings are laughable.
lets draw a close to this bickering.. you made a few quid and this is going to cost me several quid to put it right... at least when i do get an engine i will have the history for it.. bonus.. this thread is here for zoners to make their own minds up about this scenario.. you see as iv said before im honest.. i have no reason to lie about anything, i never have done and i never will do... a word to the wise.. i would have a word with the fella you got the engine off and ask him to explain the lack of numbers on it.. there are no identifiable numbers on the engine to say what it is... now why would that be??
this is my last comment for you mike.. please reply if you like but dont expect a response from me.. my main concern now is getting a good engine for this car and thats what this thread is mainly about.. its proberbly going to cost me £750+ inc fitting to put this right.. weather you knew or not.
Have a word with the bloke who put the engine in too... the exhaust was sealed with mastic... hence why the cat was @ucked.
tim.

because i wanted one.. the idle was up and down because the mafs was disconnected... tbh it did go better without it connected.

iv moaned about it for a while.. honesty is the best policy.. your right i should have walked away... but i didnt have a compression tester to hand... and the car's body is in good condition(as far as i am aware.. i havent had it on a ramp or over a pit yet)... and i thought it would be a simple fix..i wouldnt dream of selling someone something that wasnt running as it was intended... i was told the ropey idle was down to the icv needed cleaning by mike(not bad for someone who dosent know allot about cars eh??).. but i could have walked away.. a harsh lesson learnt... it will be running as it should by the time iv finished with it.

I have no knowledge of you, your car(s) or the amount you paid for them...

But it seems to me that you bought the car knowing there were mechanical issues...The CAT was bad luck, but the engine wasn't good when you bought it. As John says you should have walked away, but you went into the deal with your eyes open...

However, you have a clean 328sport (albeit with some dodgy aftermarket bits attached) and the only issue is that it needs a new engine or a bottom end rebuild...

Since you can get a ready-to-go motor for around £500, I'd say just do it and forget it...

Badmouthing the seller because you have come across a couple of issues 6 mths down the line that were probably there to start with (but you failed to notice) isn't on, really...

The noise from your engine, btw, sounds like it may be a failed or failing timing chain tensioner or guide....

Alloy blocked scrap!

£695 for an engine? Sorry but you can buy any number of tatty but running/driving 328i saloons for less, rusty arched, shagged cloth trim etc. I sold Lee Beemerlad a clean 328i Auto with leather and a/c for £500!

When your average 328i E36 is worth a grand, nearly 700 quid for an engine is a joke.

Right iv just dropped the car off to ralph for the mot!! he got it over the pit.. it needs two new front ball joints, there are signs of glue on the near side and the offside looks like it has been pressed lol... so they are getting replaced as ralph has the tool to do the job properly.
the near side break pipe needs to be done.. i looked at it and it looks a bastard of a job to do! as it goes over the tank.
front fog light bulb is getting replaced also.
the hand break needs adjusting.
i looked under the car for the first time and i must say its clean.. so i think its time to get it waxoiled paying special attention to where the rear arch meets the sill.. but thats for another day..
i await the results.....

I bought my Touring from RM2186 (Mike), we agreed a price of £670 through the zone and he delivered it on his way to London next day(about 200 miles) when it arrived it was perfectly as described and had a quick test drive and i paid. Hour later the car would not move which turned out to be Auto gearbox leaking fluid out the torque converter, Spoke to Mike and he was very apologetic and said he would get me another gearbox which he did and delivered it the next weekend just leaving me with just cost of fitting! Now the car runs fine other than using abit of water which im sure Mike did not know about! He is a nice guy and would buy another one off him which is something i would not say about alot of sellers ive bought from :D

right... back on topic..
the car passed the mot.. thats after a whole new handbreak leaver(as the teeth were @ucked) + shoes + cable, rear break pipe, fog lamp bulb, near side and off side outer balljoints and a suprise oil+ filter change, to be honest i shouldnt have had the oil change done.. but i thought it was for the best as i need to keep the turd running until another engine is sourced!!
oh and it cost me £250.. so if i add that to the grand total of what i have spent on the car since owning it.... im not going to bother.. it has a years ticked hooooooo rahhhh!
