whilst at the das nurburgring this weekend i took the old touring for a death lap (or 3) of sheere balls out you pants ragging. and bearing in mind it was bloody busy and having to let the porsche bummers past i managed to get a lap of 10.58.
what have other had around there?
the lap time started at the last cone of the shicane and finished at the audi bridge.
would be very interested in knowing what any of you have achieved round there!!

I've done 10 min exact in my 325i sport. That is BTG (bridge to gantry) which is where everyone time their laps to and from.

yes i did. i now realise that everyone on the internet hangs on my every word so i should not act in such an irresposible manner as suggesting people go fast around a track.

bss325i is right, you gotta time it bridge to gantry.

Me and my mate went there june this year, took 2 325i tourings, one pretty much standard, lowered on 17" Alpina reps, and mine which has gaz PROPER coilovers all round, 17" e36 m3 motorsport reps and a shagged viscous fan lol.

My mate did 9:58 and i did 9:31 bridge to gantry... both on camara to prove!

If someone could drive my car for me with a bit more skill then i reckon sub 9 mins is poss, maybe i could with some practice

The ONLY people who care about ring times in their cars are people that watch too much Clarkson and beleve EVERYTHING that he says as 100% truth

Thats a bit of a broad statement. I have seen locals in 911 GT3 RS's with stop watches taped to their steering wheels.

I would be surprised if they were avid Clarkson fans.

I only know my time after watching the video of the lap.

its not the be all and end all but having a bench mark time to guage if your improving or not with experience. and theres always the inevitable banter bragging rights with your mates.
its the nature of the beast, a motorsport track, a car and some hard driving. there cant be many that make the trip to view the trackside scenery at 30mph.

You gotta time a few of ya laps if you're out there. I timed about 4 out of nine to see how i was doing, plus if you put a good lap in then yeah, bragging rights all the way, especially when ya times are caught on film.

Its not the be all and end all but how else do you know exactly how well ya doing?

I stopped filming after my best lap tho os i dont like sideways moments at 90mph!!!! That was time to stop pushing!!!

Timing is pointless on touristenfahrten, you'll inevitably get held up by some idiot who doesn't use his mirrors, very often a biker.

I'm hoping to do an open pit trackday there next year where there are limited cars and no power rangers. You get to gun it full throttle all the way down the straight and down past the gantry which will be rather exciting.

Various companies host open pit trackdays there, not all that often though. I think It's about £400 for the day so it pays to ensure your car is in tip-top condition and not going to expire.

I doubt it mate. I really want to go myself, but would be rather scared of that place. More so with other drivers all around, some you overtake, other who gun it past you.

I recommend doing a fair few trackdays first!

You live in the mainland right? Go to one, you can! Living in jersey means we have to ferry over to the UK with our car, or book one of those track day things where you get given cars. We need a track in jersey so badly. There is one place left in the island that is ok to make one, but it wont happen....

We have hill climbs, rallys, sprints/drags, motorcross and trails, but no track and so many fast cars!

Stock 318is with Bilstein B8 and H&R suspension.

Later that day I managed a 9:50. It's handy if you can follow someone that knows the track well.

Apologies for the over enthusiastic passenger comments!

I've done a couple of sub 9 so far.

It's not worth taking excessive risks to get a time, but only slow people don't care about their lap times there! :D

Only been over the once, a couple of years back and the 325 was lapping 9.20-9.30's. Biggest problem was all of the tourists lol. Always crashing and/or getting in the way. Very difficult on a busy day to get some clear runs. Best thing to do is to go 1st thing in the morning or hang on late into the evening.
