If we have to put a car that is written off back on the road, we have to get all repairs certified by a qualified panelbeater for lots of $$$, then off to the testing station where they strip it down and examine EVERYTHING minutely, more $$$. If it is non standard, it then has to go to a LV certifier for certification of the mods... more $$$$. $1000 before you can blink.8O

I imported a LHD e36 vert from Japan, converted it to RHD, had to comply it for NZ, this inspection located some small damage underneath, had to have that certified, had to have the LHD-RHD certified etc etc. Cost me just short of $3000!!!! Seems you guys have it good over there!
My ViC check was because my touring was an import from France, all the guy was interested in was the engine number and the VIN number, plus the MoT and my cash...
The classic/old car lobby here in England is active and fights hard for us when Europe trys to impose similar legestlation to yours in NZ,bad news when your hobby falls foul of the nanny state!

I've had three VIC's done, and can safely say you won't be getting it checked this week - unless you are very, very lucky. It normally takes 2-3 weeks to come though. The actual inspection takes 15 minutes or so.

I wouldn't be too fussed about Pod. Get it on the road, get some miles on and iron out the bugs. Then you have winter to get the bodywork properly sorted...hint, hint. winkeye :D

I gave the old turd a wash and a quick polish today, the paint comes up pretty well, but the doors are a disgrace at the bottom, along with the sills and tailgate.

I have almost written off the pod with this VIC malarky, but I will chase them tomorrow and see what can be done.

Not sure if I'm going to the pod yet, might have to work, but if I am I've got a red, rot free, passenger door you can have for the price of a beer. Not sure if it's the same colour - here's a pic:

Thanks Doug, I'll pass as I don't think I'll have room as I'm most likely to be in the soarer to be honest and I have a Breyton rear valence I'm taking back home with me which somehow has to fit into the cabin of the car, so a door will not fit too I suspect ( want to avoid you having to lug it there and back)

Coolio. I'll probably throw it in the end, but I get all daft about wasting things!

Bloody VOSA spastics, can't trace my online application I sent last Wednesday.

I kicked off and now have a fax number for the test centre where I want to go, so will be faxing my application direct and may still sneak in a test this week.

hey, I was kidding myself I would be there in the turd last year :) But it is looking more promising. The journey to the VIC test (about 30 miles) will be the first proper outing in the car and will give me an idea if it is going to hold up for a 120 mile journey to the pod and some possible strip action. (I won't be running it on the strip unless I'm happy with the car's behaviour) as I have no plans on paying for recovery home or spending sunday night on the hard shoulder for a sake of a few 14 second passes
