the car has been running rough so decided to take it for a power run. not happy with the results but confirms that something is wrong.

i am runing a m30 3.5 in my e30 (218bhp standard) with a 3.64 diff

the first run came out at 159bhp. after a bit of playing he managed to get it to 175.3bhp. still much lower than standard, so looking for advice on where i could be loosing the power.

he said that i might be loosing some bhp on the manifold as its mated to a e30 pipe. i know i am loosing 5bhp on the air filter so will be getting a new one asap. he also mentioned that my maf could benifit from being replaced. taking that all into account i still can not see how i will gain the 43bhp doing that.

i need help finding the lost power.

How do you mean running rough? Why put it on a dyno if you know there is something wrong with it?

not rough as is idle or driving problem, just felt down on power. took it for a power run to get a starting point and some ideas on why its running slow.

218 is tandard 'new' power and so it is bound to be down on that being a 100k plus mile engine.
The MAF/AFM could easily lose a further 10hp+ if is fecked.
Add about another 10hp or so for the restrictive exhaust and your not too far away.

Should you require a known good AFM i have one here.

loving the sales pitch, be intersting to see what mine does on a rolling road, I'd be very happy to see over 200bhp to be honest.

Could be a host of things like spadge said its not going to achieve 'new' figures but saying that it is down quite a lot.

AFM
camshaft
injectors
airleak
exhaust

plus a host of other variables

Thanks for the advice. I will have to start replacing and try find the power again.

Starting to think I should look into supercharging.

been giving the car a proper inspection and found the exhaust downpipe flattened near the rear axel to about half the width. it doesnt look like its hit anything but it dont look right.

firstly is this normal (im thinking not)

secondly any guesstimates on how much power i would loose?

No suggestions from me I'm afraid, but I am very interested to hear what you find/solve. My M30'd cab is also way down on power, but in my case, I *think* it is because it is in some sort of failsafe/limphome mode that stops the fly-by-wire throttle opening fully. You've not got the same EML setup have you?

Martin.
