can anyone tell me where i can buy new ni-cad batteries for my service
indicator lights the one`s you have to solder in
its for 1987 E30

Sorry, I don't know the answer but it is relevant-ish... Do they really use ni-cads, & how does the charging cycle work if they do? Just thinking that nimhs might be a worthwhile upgrade either way??

Hi guys, yes the are rechargables Radioshack i think do them maybe maplins as well? what board you got Jon as i got one here with good batteries you could have.

Cheers mate, but mine doesn't actually need doing! Just wondering about the use of ni-cad cells & memory effects etc & thinking that nimhs would potentially be a better choice...

I *do* need a reset tool though!

anyway logga - i got a board with good batts if you want it dude,
otherwise like i say u can get new batts and solder em in.

Jon, have heard of people using nimh batts and them working fine.

A good upgrade if you're changing the batteries is to get remove the 2 old batteries and then solder a battery holder to the SI board battery terminals and run the wires through the instrument cluster casing.

Situate the battery holder somewhere concealed under the dash and if they do again, you can just pup out the old batteries and put new ones in, then you won't have to remove all the instrument cluster and start soldering batteries.

There are two sizes fitted the AA size and there are ones that are half the size I found this out when I went to change mine.

You don't really need aretet tool.

pin 7 to pin 1 with a short length of wire iirc

yeah they used diff batts on the later E30`s
