Well a bit more of the usual slow progress made today. We had company over yesterday so couldn't get anything done then and I didn't get started until about 1pm today.
Fitted the new cam cover gasket set and chucked in 6 new NGK's & refitted the coil packs etc.
The set about taking off the windage tray which attaches to the bottom of the block and removing the E36 oil pickup pipe, the only way I found I was able to do this was by removing the oil pump due to where one of the pickup pipe bolts is located. Went to fit the E34 sump and found that the windage tray in the sump fouls on the main bearing support brackets, so a quick phone call to Bob-S to check I wasn't going mad confirmed I needed to drill out the rivets in the sum holding the windage tray in.
This was a success, only I then spent a good half-hour cleaning all the swarf and metal filings out of the sump with white spirit and the airline.
Fitted the sump up with new gasket and plenty of blue Hylomar just for good measure.
Went to fit the M20 flywheel & clutch and found that some webbing needed removing from the end of the sump as it fouled the flywheel, so the angle grinder gave that the good news and I got the flywheel bolted up and loctite'd on, clutch on and centred up and bolted up.
Then fitted a new propshaft guibo and bolted the gearbox up.
Just got to bolt on the starter motor and then get the exhaust manifold fitted and the wiring loom and a few other bits and it'll be ready to dangle it over the engine bay again.
5 weeks until the pod
