If you look at my photo, the crank mark isn't quite on the mark. If you rotated that to line up, the rotor I reckon would be at somewhere between 9 and 10 oclock. EXACTLY opposite to where you reckon yours was yesterday :o:

I think purely due to the fact it was fuelling the correct pots but firing on the wrong one. The only place for it to go is down.

I'm saying all this, we don't really know if we've sussed it yet.

Ben, I'll be in touch mate if I need it torching......sorry if things still don't run. Cheers mate

OOOOOOHHHHH YES!!!!! She runs.

Cam timing was spot on as well. It was not 180 deg out! Lets have a competition to see whether anyone can gueass what it was. And Barry and Peter need not apply as they are already up to speed.

But once we found the issue, she barely saw the starter and it fired straight up, coolant bled a peice of p1ss and we actually spun her round the block (albeit with no bonnet :o: )

Seemed to have a slight hesitation between 3500 to 4500 RPM (I didn't push it too hard) where it seemed to want to hold back but it's booked in with Barry for an MOT Saturday at 12 so we can check themixture then as it seems fuel related.

Well happy and I'd like to thank everyone for their inputs. This Forum has to be the best in the land for assistance and support. But most of all I'd like to publically thank Simon for his endless help and the fact he's driven more times to Epsom to help me with this. Cheers mate, it's very appreciated.

Damn, I thought that was too easy - no insult to your installation/checking skills by the way - but I did think it would be something simple that you would sort out. Just glad Trev didn't throw the engine out and stick another in.

Really interested to see how this is after it is run in.

Oh B0ll0cks, I'll tell you anyway I'm so happy.

No Toby not the fuel pipes. It was ignition related.

I got over there, started work on it and had the engine at TDC with the cam cover off the plugs out and the dis cover off. And the rotor arm was no where near number six as I'd suspected. Nor was it on No. 1 either. Si turns up and we scratch our heads. It was actually pointing to the next plug lead around from No.1. So we checked the cam timing via the marks. Absolutely spot on! F*cking wierd we thinks. So I take the rotor arm off and removed the cam wheel torx bolt. Immediately we spotted this:

Image

Whats happened is that as I've torqued up the bolt while the engines on the stand, I've not noticed that the black plastic rotor mount disc has slipped from it's locating dowel, rotated a touch then relocated it'self by punching another locating hole! See where the metal locating key has re imbedded it'self on the centre metal bit.

And there you have it. Thats all it was. Lesson learned boys and girls. :x :x :x
