Which company? I worked for Bowman Power for a while heading up there electrical packaging dept, our primary business was gas turbine CHP's. Left there and re-trained as an electrician, have now run my own business for the last 6 years. Apart from the sparky work I also fit kitchens / bathrooms etc.

Started my working career as a mechanical designer in mainly defence & communication systems, best part time job i have had was working in a hospital, clearing up the burns & operating theatres. Don't know why i enjoyed that job so much, might of been all the young ladies :D :D :D :D
I work for centrax gas turbines limited ( http://www.centrax.eu.com/en/ ). Can't say i've really heard of Bowman Power though. I'm about to go into my third year of my apprenticeship, but i would still like to the more domestical side for some what i call "proper electricans qualifications" like 17th edition and that. I've litterally just finished my NC in electrical engineering - over the moon with a double distinction :D :D

I look after McLaren F1's and their owners, and just starting to play with the SLRs as well. Before that was workshop manager for a company that built privateer Mitsubishi Evo rally cars.
The rest of the time I am fixing all my broken cars  F**King hate cars at the moment!

You're playing with the big boys! Bowmans systems ( www.bowmanpower.co.uk ) are measured in kW unlike your MW beasties!

Congrats on the Double D. Domestic electrics can be a proper ball ache, stick to commercial / industrial installations if you can.

Got that from the trent information pdf file on the internet - the bedplate (or the big "I" beam thing bits at the bottom) comes up to your waist 8O
Thanks fella, all ive got from work is basically "good, i dont expect anything less than a distinction" or "so then, when are you bringing in the congratulatory doughnuts?" :chuckle:

I'd still like to experience the domestic side, some of the sparkys at work started off as domestical and sometimes i dont have a clue what they rattle on about  But then they dont always know about what i rattle on about from the stuff ive learnt at college.

Yup. Mine started out as a hobby that people wanted to pay me for 8 or 9 years ago. Like any job, some times it can get stressful (deadlines tighter than a nun on a sunday, getting code working in Internet Exploder, etc) but all in all, very happy :)

I like my job, dont love it.

Love the whole programming/mental challanges each day. Dislike the fact that its just business related (making web applications to track database information, or government information... see some funny info around the place when lurking databases).

You get a real satisfication when 1. Learning and improving a new skill/technique/subject/technology 2. Complete a project that can take months 3. When you've done the best you can and clients praise you, recommend your services, and then dont come back with a random ball ache of a problem!

Now, if I get round to finishing some of my games... I could do my job in a certain industry earning similar peanuts whilst having the satisication of hundreds of thousands of people enjoying the final product! ... maybe one day!

I install and maintain pro lighting and sound systems.

Just spent the last three days at Wembley Stadium swapping out some speakers in advance of the Oasis gigs (first night tonight) which involved lowered massive speaker clusters 50m into the seating area and replacing broken speaker drivers.

Yep defo love my job too.

It's hard work. 6 days a week has turned into 7 for the forseeable future. I'm getting no money beyond the absolute minimum I need to survive and keep the kids fed and clothed, and still the wolves are hovering around the doors.

I still wouldn't swap it though. It's very early days for our business but the signs are that it's heading in the right direction.

It's a hell of a buzz working for ourselves at long last and people seem to be enjoying the food and service we provide. My wife has turned into a perfect business partner too which took me by surprise a little!! It's great having incompetent suppliers to take the brunt of her ferocious temper instead of just me all the time.. :snigger:

I couldn't wait to get back to work when I was on my hols in Spain recently... :o:

Until very recently I worked as a fraud investigator for one of the largest banks in the world then the credit crunch happened and my job was moved to India.

I still have a job but I now have to work evenings and weekends doing a crappy boring job but on the plus point I still have a job and the people I work with now have a sense of humor which was seriously laking in my old job.

Plus I've just finished my C&G level two in electrical installation and I'm about to start my Level three few years and I will be working for myself.

On and off to be honest.

Hard work, long hours, can be very stressful. It's amazing how arsey people can be when you're only trying to help them. Grief from the consultant, grief from the nurses and grief from the patients.

However, when someone comes in properly sick, you sort them out and they walk out the hospital doors a week later, they say thanks and they really mean it - those days you really feel like you've made a difference and it's the best job in the world. 8)
