*sighs*

New head + new gasket after old one overheated (reason last owner sold car to me). No more mayo or leaky problems, but some oil residue in the cooling system :(

I've put speedflush through twice (ran the car 40-50 miles between flushes), drained the rad and engine block (WHAT AN ANNOYING PLACE TO PUT THE COOLANT PLUG - behind the exhaust manifold - why god, oh why did ze germans do zat?)!

But still some oil residue in the water :x

I'm gonna relace all the hoses soon, but wanted it squeaky clean first to prolong the life of the new rubber, but not sure how to get rid of the old crap, albeit just a little residue.

Any tips or extra-strong products that will be safe to use? Or should I just ignore it (I'm not good at ignoring problems though...).

Thanks in advance

from experience it can be a nightmare, i think i flushed my coolant out maybe 5/ 6times before i was happy, i woudnt waste my time with flushing agents anymore, keep doing it with water and when you are happy stick some anti freeze in.

Needs to be strong shit!

I've stripped an M20 which had a head job, after it cracked which was done 9 years ago, and there was still mayo in the crankcase! round the top of the sump and on the front and rear seals

From http://www.eurochem.co.uk/products.php?categories_id=11 it says you can't use this on aluminium - that won't go near my cylinder head TYVM!

Bugger, looks like speedflush and water...anyone know a good stockist that sells in bulk hahaha

That's only the caustic version! Even that wouldn't do any harm for the time it's going to be in there.

Really  For a second there I thought you were pulling my leg... 8O

I found:

http://www.safechemdirect.co.uk/index.p ... TRATE.html

Is this the stuff you mean? Do I add this diluted and run the engine to temperature and then drain it and refill 2 or 3 times with clean water before going in with the anti-freeze?

Cheers
