Red wire needs to go to a fused, unswitched live - I went straight to battery +ve on mine as the batt is in the boot. Blue wire goes to the blue aerial output.

An electric aerial needs 3 wires, +ve (red), -ve (black), signal feed from HU (blue).

I cannot imagine how it could work any other way.

It may earth to the bodywork, one should be a switchable (from the blue wire on stereo as you say) and the other a permanent live.

Doesn't sound like a Hirschman (spelling?) standard areial.

Does it have a maker's name?

Hirshman and Beru aerials have the three wires, permenant live, earth and switched live. Unless the aerial body is earthing through the retaining strip to the bodywork(have never seen this) then the three wires should be there.

The one in my cab only has two wires and earths to the body of the car where it ataches. but the earth is a bit dodgey and I had to crimp a new earth wire to it and then to a new earth point in the car.
