My foreman had a 03 Type R and we used to have it everynight along the long slip road and I didn't ever get near to passing him and if I gained it was cos I had better traction of the roundabout. he then bought a 05 prodrive WRX and that wasn't much of a race although these days he doesn't race anymore since he gets a proper twatting these days winkeye

No I’m 27 when I say terrible running costs I don’t mean I cant afford it I mean that for what it would cost me to run a 2.5 I’d rather run something else that more justifies the cost.

Well i'm going on the fact that my average MPG in my E36 325 was 18 so in an E30 with an old engine this must be worse, i know some people on here claim to get around 35 from there E30 2.5 but that must be some very boring driving.

I think my 318IS is getting around 40-45mpg but thats just a guesstimate

my 330bhp cosworth does better that 18mpg. your 2.5 must have been fooked. 40-45mpg in a 1.8 twin cam petrol seems very optimistic. that 1.8 diesel territory.

18mpg?! Something was not right with that as an M50B25 should do low thirtys with ease!

The best i've had out of my M20B25 is 27mpg.

There is no way an M42B18 will do anything in the 40's, no way!

The only point in modifying a car to increase power is so you can go out and race on the streets?

Has just having loads of power on tap for when you feel like going out for a blast when conditions and traffic allow not got anything to do with it?

Or perhaps if you plan on occasionally tracking it?

I personally think that street racing is abhorrent. The risks to oneself and innocent bystanders is too high.

It's one thing to take your car and wring the s**t out of it on a deserted road in the dead of night. Or to hammer along a motorway.

It's quite another thing to race on a public highway for some sort of perceived "glory" !

People who do that deserve jail terms, not just disqualification and fines. As far as I'm concerned if a fatality resulted it should be classed as first degree murder.

A car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands.

Barry, there is no point trying to tell these dellusional fools how slow their chariots are. After this weekend we know exactly what happens when you have 3 similar chariots together with the 3 popular engines.

For me I worked my way up from a m10 318i to my Alpina. I've never gone for the power but more for the feeling the package gives me. I love the sound of the Alpina engine and even though it goes like stink ( even by todays standards ) I know I am a very nervious behind the wheel so never try to race on twisty stuff. Last time a span I even ran march109 for advice LOL.

What I'm getting at is you can have a fast car for the simple pleasure of owning it.

I think the blatant observation here is that some and I stress some of the 6 pot BMW owners must feel insecure about something whether it be themselves or the vehicle in question so that they need a 6 pot almost like a small child needs a security blanket.

and I think that the is Owners have a serious dose of the small man syndrome.

Constantly trying to say that they're "baby M3's" can compare to a 325i.... I've had fifteen 318is's and only three 325i's. I can honestly say that the 325i is a better car in every way.

It's only at this point in my life though that I can easily afford to own and run a 325i though. I previously also suffered from the little man symptom and tried to fight the 318is's corner all the time.

Needless to say once I could afford a 325i the 318is was a distant memory and it will stay that way.

BMW aren't famous for their 4-pots. They just happen to make them for people who can't afford their glorious 6-pots.

I rest my case..... having previously been one of these 318is "little boys"

I don't have to prove myself to anyone matey. You have small man syndrome. I had a 318is once.. but same as above.. I bought a 6 pot and well unless it's special a 4 pot e30 is only worth breaking

Actually fair play to Bob. People too often belittle one set of owner that are not in their pot group. He mearly sticks 2 fingers up and has the v5 of both types and I dare someone to put an IS over an M3! LOL bravo Mr Bob!

Why do I have small man syndrome? I’ve never said my car was any better than a 325? Infact I know the 325 is a better car than the IS where does little man come in to it?
Its all the hate I don’t understand?? You never get IS owners literally hating on a 325

In fact matey if you must know one of my other rides is a 170cc Lambretta don’t really think id ride a scooter or any small motorbike for that matter if I have small man syndrome!

WHAT??? Yes you do......perhaps you're subscribed to another forum somewhere and have gotten mixed up! They're constantly at it. Bleating on about how their baby M3's have this many horsepower and get to 60 this quickly and can go faster with a chip and can do the 0-60 run in 2nd if.....
Oh and the 318is bodyshell is galvanised from the factory and it's lighter than a 325i

You're fighting a losing battle here 2Pac. Maybe you should go out "hittin them corners in them low lows girls" in your 318is/Lambretta and leave this flogged to death topic alone.
