I've got a 325tds e36, the boost is not electronically controlled so how will this chip raise the boost pressure, and raise the fuel pressure, diesels don't work like that. sounds like BS to me, go somewhere reputable.

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

I've heard about this hot start issue but I don't have it - the only time I've had trouble starting is when there's not much diesel in it.

BTW - is this thing easy to fit/cost much and would be worth doing anyway?

Ta :D

yeah, can reccomend fitting it it's really solved the problem, easy to fit, split the temp sender wire and connect the hot start box in series, then take live from glow plug relay and earth the box. if you do it, solder rather than use the choc blocs provided as they mess the resistance up.

I had an '96 E36 325tds Touring which was as flat as a pancake when I bought it .
It had an operating band of 2500rpm-3250rpm and wouldn't do over 155kmh (@95mph)
Also consumption was in region of 32-33mpg .

So after reading an advert in Total BMW and then calling for a chat with Jason (an extremely nice and knowledgable guy) I took it to BW Chip Tune in London when I was on hols last summer .

It took him about 75 mins to take out the old chip , re-programme a new one , and re-solder it back onto the ECU . If I remember correctly it cost me @ £325 .

Afterwards , the car was completely different . Like a new car .
The operating band started at 1750rpm and would go round to 4500rpm , and pulled cleanly all the way through .
It was far quicker on acceleration (it couldn't have got any slower !!) and would happily cruise at 180kmh (@110mph) a speed it hadn't even seen before . And I saw 225kmh (@140mph) on the clock on several occasions .
Not only that but economy improved to 35-38mpg deoending on if you used the new found 'power/torque'

After running the chip in for 1wk , I had it on a rolling road and the power had increased to 186bhp . Can't remember exactly new torque figure , but I believe it was @ 30% increase .

I had no problems afterwards with hot/cold starting etc , and since I've sold it on to a friend he has marvelled in how fantastic it is . It's now got 235,000kms (@145,000mls) and it's as sweet as a nut .
I cannot say how amazed I was with the re-chip , if it'd been someone elses car and they told me the difference , I wouldn't have believed them !!

Well worth a call to Jason .

Hope this sheds some light on things .

Chris
