I had an '96 E36 325tds Touring which was as flat as a pancake when I bought it .
It had an operating band of 2500rpm-3250rpm and wouldn't do over 155kmh (@95mph)
Also consumption was in region of 32-33mpg .
So after reading an advert in Total BMW and then calling for a chat with Jason (an extremely nice and knowledgable guy) I took it to BW Chip Tune in London when I was on hols last summer .
It took him about 75 mins to take out the old chip , re-programme a new one , and re-solder it back onto the ECU . If I remember correctly it cost me @ £325 .
Afterwards , the car was completely different . Like a new car .
The operating band started at 1750rpm and would go round to 4500rpm , and pulled cleanly all the way through .
It was far quicker on acceleration (it couldn't have got any slower !!) and would happily cruise at 180kmh (@110mph) a speed it hadn't even seen before . And I saw 225kmh (@140mph) on the clock on several occasions .
Not only that but economy improved to 35-38mpg deoending on if you used the new found 'power/torque'
After running the chip in for 1wk , I had it on a rolling road and the power had increased to 186bhp . Can't remember exactly new torque figure , but I believe it was @ 30% increase .
I had no problems afterwards with hot/cold starting etc , and since I've sold it on to a friend he has marvelled in how fantastic it is . It's now got 235,000kms (@145,000mls) and it's as sweet as a nut .
I cannot say how amazed I was with the re-chip , if it'd been someone elses car and they told me the difference , I wouldn't have believed them !!
Well worth a call to Jason .
Hope this sheds some light on things .
