2.5 M50 500hp.

Unfortunately the engine is sold and the owner needs it soon, so it´s coming out very soon.
I however will be putting in a M50 for my PlugN Play VEMS units baseline setup, as I will be designing them over summer for a big range of BMW´s

Well engine is coming out soon,
So I´m getting a M50 instead.
I´m going to run it AlphaN on VEMS and use it as the development platform for my
plug&play VEMS ecu´s for later BMW engines.
Hate to see this monster 2.8 go but such is life.

The whole engine package has gone for 3800pounds.
I wish.
Just using the car as a test platform.

freshly rebuilt M20 2.8 engine + ancillaries + loom + VEMS + injectors, exhaust manifold, exhaust and so on.
Basically everything required to bolt this into a E30 , the owner had to find himself a M20 gearbox and driveshaft and gearshifting mechanism that´s it.

How the hell could you sell it so cheap??fowler wrote:no way its too cheap who has got it gunni ????anyone we knowstembo21 wrote:is that with the vems ectGunni wrote:The whole engine package has gone for 3800pounds.
I'm still thinking naughty f/i thoughts but it would have to be a supercharger I think!

I didn't mean it like that was just saying because it seemed too cheap for the quality of the work and results.Gunni wrote:Cause my profit margin doesn´t need to be as high as other peoples.
I'd be well happy paying that for 400bhp, £10 per 1 bhp (well a little less) tuning m20s isn't cheap you find me another 400bhp engine that will bolt right in for less and I'll buy it!!

That´s true, but then again
I did not buy
higher lift cam
custom pistons
stronger rods
any head porting work.
any "go fast, bling bling parts"
As those parts are not needed in a M20 of this powerlevel. A standard 2.5 with good compression can easily be made to perform just like this 2.8.
I think I could even do a better setup for the same money since I did this thing

doh! Now I'm tempted but still veering towards the supercharger route!!

why a supercharger?
A turbo system can be adjusted to provide boost exactly like a supercharger setup

That's almost true but depending on what you want from the car and what type of charger you go for I'm still sure that a turbo can never *quite* match the instant boost of a s/c.Gunni wrote:why a supercharger?

I'm thinking small turbo vs. roots blower. Admittedly the turbo has the efficiency improvement over the roots particularly in the upper revs but there's still something to be said for the instant low-end grunt that makes a road car so nice to drive.
Not trying to be too contradictory as I've obviously got limited experience but I'm don't think I'm far wrong on the above.
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.
I can see where your coming from but if you do have a turbo that punches well in the low end then more then likely it will not flow in the high end ,
And it will just as well suited as a supercharger if you just adjust the boost to suit.

Frankly I'm not chasing big horse power and because I love my six branch manifold the easiest route to more power is a supercharger.

Tricky stuff as the compression is relatively high.
So even the thickes decompression plate isn´t a good idea.
So it would have to be custom pistons and then stronger rods would be a good move for something serious powerwise.
even for 500hp a custom piston is the only option to keep things safe.
Then it´s basically what turbo has been selected and the power achievable with that.
But a S50 is nothing like a M20 or M50 to modify.
The VEMS usable on M20´s and M50´s would mean that the engine would have to have the vanos locked. or a ecu that is ALOT more expensive bought.
A s50 - 500hp would actually cost more then a M50 - 500hp

They are cousins of the S62 wich does not hold well to excessive power or rather torque as the crankcase isn´t suited or designed for it.
I haven´t yet heard of a long term usage of a 700hp+ S62.
Saying that I think a FI M60 would be a massive treat and fun to drive.
282hp stock, 560hp should be rather easy with about 1bar of boost.
But if the torque is keept in check then it should last fine.
Meaning more power would have to come as a function of rpm´s
So maybe a uprated cam would help it even further .

hi gunni , will the manifold used in this build be the new design for top mount rhd cars if so is there any sort of time scale and will the price remain the same ? thanks gary

There is not going to be updated TCD top mount manifold unfortuanetely.
I´ll be making manifolds, split pulse out of mild steel for 450pounds now.
M20, M50 and M30 in E30 rhd.
ment for Holset HX35´s

Well it´s getting a M50 soon.
Pics as things happen.
Pics as things happen.
I´ve decided to do another customer
build it and test it job.
This time it´s going to be a
M50B25 built for a E30 chassis and M20 gearbox setup.
M50B25 - new bearings, rings, oil seals and gaskets
MLS for lower compression
Head fully checked
ARP 2000 head studs.
TCD Stage III kevlar M20 clutch
"24x12x3 Intercooler
50mm blow off
60mm wastegate
tubular split pulse top mount manifold
Custom HX35
"3 downpipe
"3 stainless exhaust
VEMS ecu
60lbs injectors or bigger
Boost control in cabin.
Walbro fuel pump
944 brake booster
eletric fan conversion
custom M20 gearbox holder
and gearshifting mechanism.
Dyno tuned, road tested.
I´m building this for 4k pounds.
Customer will need to get his own gearbox, radiator and driveshaft.
The power will be 500hp at about 1.4-1.7bar boost
Full boost by 3750rpm.
So watch this space
build it and test it job.
