Warren, havn't you done that yet?

Seriously, If you have yet to take the head off, you maybe interested to know I have a motorsport guy who is itching to gas flow an M3 head, maybe larger inlet valves, etc... He will do it pretty cheap for a "development" step. Let me know if you are interested.

FWIW, I have recently mapped another 2.3ltr E30 M3 with the head cleaned up, running Miltek exhaust and 284/284 cams with the maxx a/n which produces 272bhp. Engine is freshly built from ETA with 185psi compressions on all cylinders.
E30 M3 Unichip Alpha N style conversions, this is the ultimate for extracting the best out of your S14 M power car.
Also, Live mapping of your Standard Motronic ECU for optimising all your modifications.

I've been staring at your car with those BBS rims since yesterday. It's absolutely stunning.

I allways find something I don't like. But this time it's not something that I don't like, more a desition you have to make. Smoked lights or standard. You've got all smoked front and standard in the rear. I think either is nice on your car, just not togehter. If you're going for smoked rear lights make sure you get the right 1980's style smoked rear lights. I think they're called Startec.

Now back to staring 8O
Why is there not enough time to do it right, but allways enough time to fix the errors - I borrowed that, just so reallistic in my line of work.

I have a 3.64, had it a couple of years now. it certainly makes a difference, only problem is motorways, sitting at 70 is quite noisy and you do feel like you need to change gear! And fuel consumption is not great. I think the 3.46 would be a better ratio to go for.

haha cheers Gav. Im really glad you put it to good use! Yeah we sorted that Golf out(kind of) We managed to get it running for the trip to the 'ring and it made it! We managed 10 laps and a 10:01 depsite the traffic... Although it does seem to like chucking its oil out the breather - rings are possibly shot. :( If its not raining, its pouring.... Although it may be time for an ABF....

Well after deciding getting the sport evo injectors and taking it to Paul Shephard M3 mapping guru i was told the unfortunate news that the engine was down on compression (paul checks everything before doing the tunnig runs) and suspicioins were pointed at the exhaust valves getting pinged by the pistons.

Ive taken the car to a race engine builder and once apart we found a few little problems and some other info about the engine's condition.

The pistons had marks from where the valves had been touching quite frequently - i think it was down to the use of standard M3 valves and the tight clearances involved.

The Shrick cas had minor wear marks inline with the oilways and these were also replicated on the journals. Possible dirt or burrs from manufacturing?

The ported head was actually fairly crude as you can see from the pictures of the inlet. Possibly CNC'd with no hand finishing. Although theres no doubting the gains to be made by the porting!

My engine builder noticed that the 1 piston was more raised than the others and advised that the bottom end be inspected for wear. I thought this was a no brainer to be honest so apart it came and im very glad he mentioned it as the shells were completely worn (although expected for 190,000 km's) and the pistons were showing scoring.

So were now at the stage of total rebuild and the engine builder im using has been absolutely fantastic so far showing me everything along the way. Ive decided to use some upgraded parts but ill document it as it happens.... :D
