Just installed a hands free kit and it has a yellow wire for the stereo muting function. Anyone know which wire it connects to on the stereo? I have a relatively new head unit SONY CDX-F5550

There should be a connector on the back if the head unit marked as TEL.
it may be behind a plastic cover plate. Mines over 4 years old and mine has one, so yours should (if it aint crap)
if it doesn't your stuffed.

the ATT button on the front of mine is brill. I use that rather than screwing around at the back of the radio (plus the radio is glued in place)

You can check by running each 'spare' wire to earth via a 2A fuse. When you get the correct one, you will see the display saying 'mute, phone' etc.
Just make sure you have the connection fused and be prepared for some shorting.
edit: I just realised you found it anyway. this might help someone else tho......

Glad you sorted it
Anyone know what signal the hands free kit sends down that wire? Would love to use it to let my pocket PC mute the stereo when the satnav says something...

Probably just a drag to ground or drag to 12V signal, simple thing would be to put a meter on it and ring the phone.. See what it does..
