E30 M50 conversion temp sender?

I have completed my M50 conversion and the temp gauge on the e30 is not working with the M50 sender?
What are the options?
I read somewhere that the M3 e30 temp sender fits the same threads?

Confirmed! It won't run very well with the blue sensor replaced by a brown one (at least it won't when it gets up to temperature!)

Good good, changed my temp sender today so my gauge works, only had the m50 in for 6 months! just got round to it and i remembered why i hadn't done it. Its an arse of a job with the engine in the car

Just to confirm,it's the brown sender that requires changing,you need an E30 single pole one... not difficult at all with the engine in,just needs a deep socket and a universal joint.

Read the thread....blue is ECU,all my gauge senders,(3 E30's!) are brown!

today i;ve replacced the m50 black sender with m20 brown sender.
its seems my temperature gauge still not works.

i notice m50 temp sender is 2 pin, m20 temp sender is only 1 pin.

Which M50 loom wire have you connected to the temp. gauge wire of the E30 body loom at the C101 connector.
The M20 connector earths through its metal body, rather than the second pin.

I'm using 94' 525i M50B25TU Maroon label 413 ECU without EWS.

E34 engine wiring loom - Pin 12 (brown/violet) -> E30 body - Pin 4 (Brown/violet)

12 to 4 is correct, so if you have fitted a M20 brown sensor in place of the M50 one, your temp gauge should be fully functional.
If it isn't, use a piece of wire to short the brown/purple to earth at the C101, and see if the gauge goes to full hot with the ignition on.

yes i've tried shorting the pin 4 to the ground.
my temperature gauge goes to Maximum...

in this case would be my temperature sender is faulty ??

Now short the brown/purple wire at the temp sensor plug to earth, and see if that does the same thing.
If it does, the sensor is faulty, or the wrong type. It must be a single pin E30 one.

my brown sender is taken off my 1992 m20 325i . its a single pin sendor.

anyway i will try to get another to try it out.
