My uncle just phoned to say he's got to take his wheels off his 528 but the locking wheel nuts have got internal splines and he never got the key when he bought the car a couple of weeks ago. any ideas how to get these off without the key.

Cheers

Should there be a plug type key to go into them?

There are a different array of splines to these.
Will either find it in the rear boot toolbox or glovebox.
If not, then there difficult to take off, unless someone close to you has got some.

Best thing to do would be to get some replacement bolts first, then head down to your local friendly tyre centre. They should be able to get them off for you. I've had them off with the socket technique above but it depends what type of key it is. :D

Cheers guys, he's looked all over the car but no luck, i'll have to tell him to go the way of the gheko and get some replacements before heading down the tyre place.

But only if you know the code. Which is stamped into the end of the bolt (thread end). Which means you need to get one out first.

Just go to a BMW dealership and they should have a master set and will then order you the correct one or might even sell you their one and they will just order themselves another. No need to start hammering :)

A Gator Grip Universal Socket should do the trick :D
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

Toecutter,

Is it the bolt that has an internal spline or the key? If it's the bolt, see spadge. There's various sets floating round, one will fit!

IF the bolts are the original one's,giving a stealer the VIN number may turn up the code for the bolts...
