What's the idle like, streetable?
I can put up with a lumpy idle but must be able to pass emmisions and be driveable.

Hmmmm, tough call!
I wonder if it'll make a lot of difference in terms of performance from the 284/272 probably not much in it

I have a 288/288 in the racer although it has been slightly re-ground too. I wouldn't recommend one for the road Adam. I hadn't realised just how lumpy it is until I fitted the temporary standard engine back in the car and felt how smooth it is.

A New Schrick will cost IRO Ԛ£400 total, you'll need valve springs too.

Hi Jimbob, I bought a Dbilas 282/272 for my 2.7, i bought it off German ebay, and in answer to Adams question are they worth it compared to the Shrick, well i would deffinately say so, only costing Ԛ£200 compared to Ԛ£400 for the shrick, and they are a quality well looked upon tuning firm in Germany, also i enquired about needing the stronger springs and they say not necessary, if you want to get in touch with the agents direct this is there email, ls-cartec@freenet.de and there phone no- 00 49 03 99 32 4 87 00 cheers Dave

Thanks for the info Dave, spot on! So I take it your 2.7 is running this cam without the upgraded valve springs?
Budgets tight and it's only a matter of time until we start putting it back together, there's no way I'm taking it apart again and buying all the new bolts etc again!!

I Enquired with MardiGras Motorsport (www.mardigras.co.uk) to supply a Schrick cam, they can get all durations of Schrick cam and save the hassle of transfering money to Euro's/Germany, this is their email,
Give them a ring to check prices (they also speak English!!!)

Thanks also for the Schrick info, for the 284/272 they want Ԛ£261+vat which isn't a bad price.
But I can get a brand new Dbilas cam to my door for Ԛ£220 from elsewhere. Decision time

I'd go for the Dblias for that price, it's only 2 degrees off the Schrick and like any top brand, you only pay for the name with Schrick.

I seem to remember being offered Shrick 304 & the 288 at around Ԛ£220 inclusive from CA Automotive, it was a while back but worth a call. I might have a 284 for sale with the springs in the next few weeks if anyone's interested

hmm, just spotted this thread. I have a piper 292 / 292 in my 320 at the moment. although the idle is not smooth the car is very drivable. this is partly down to the raised idle speed that one of the zone chips efects. the only trouble i have had is it sometimes floods on cold days. Great for top end though! cam costs about Ԛ£280 blank.

That's awesome, it must be like one of the old H1 Kawasaki triples (betraying my age here... that was 1972ish...) which you could have accelerated past on a pushbike until they hit their powerband at about 4000 rpm, whereupon they went sideways, and you just came off. Every time.
After a while, you either died, or sold it to the next guy who thought he could ride one...

Hi the listed duration for this cam is 292 degrees (76 + 36 + 180 = 292) not sure where your getting the 310 duration from?M20olly wrote:yup was bit unsure myself so had a look on the paperwork that came with it. 292 inlet 292 exhaust 310 duration.
Was this a straight forward fit?
Did you have any problems with the increased valve lift and have to modify the piston valve pockets?
Are you running it with standard valve springs? Schick list them but Piper don't mention that uprated springs are required?
Would you agree with the power really only coming on strong from 2500 rpm?
Cheers

So if 292 is the duration, it won't be a 292/292 cam will it, I thought that was a bit wild... so what is it really?

mmm, will havee a look, says 292 degrees in let and exh, thougt this was comparable to 286/286 etc. was standard fit, didn't eaven take the hed off! bit low on grunt at the bottom end but then it was before i changed it. going in to 2.7 in a few weeks so that should put an end to that prob.
