nice car steve. looks similar to the later "design" convertible colour. as si said, get some hartge alloys, plus 4-spoke steering wheel, etc. and you're away!

I have a neon green cabby parked next to it and it is a totally different colour, I will post a pic of the 2 parked up together
I am searching for alloys at the moment but not having much luck

I had a good chat with Iain tonight and got Lots and Lots of infoadit wrote:try iain (HartgeH27). i'm sure he has some for sale mate
it seems to be an origional Hartge, a H26 to be precise , 20 bhp over a b2.5 will do nicely
I hope to get it down on the ramps this weekend and have a good look around underneath
You could also look on the cylinderhead above the inlet runners of the 3 first cylinders, if hartge modded the head what type of head will be engraved in the metal there.
Why is there not enough time to do it right, but allways enough time to fix the errors - I borrowed that, just so reallistic in my line of work.

True if converted in Germany but not true if done in England by Birds UK.
There where no external distinguishing marks on the Hartge engines converted by Birds.

ok a bit more research done today,
there are Hartge shocks, anti roll bars and possibly springs fitted but no LSD
I now believe it is not an origional Hartge as i first suspected but a replica built years ago using origional Hartge parts
I think this car started life as a 318
the mountings for the M20 airflow meter and relays are pop riveted on !
the battery tray is very rotten which continues down the bulkhead all the way down the back of the pedals,
this makes me think the battery in boot kit was added on when it was converted to how it is now.
all the goodies and will be removed and a re-shell will begin if I find the right donor car. hopefully in white or red.
I have the chance of a solid 2 door Bronzit beige but somehow I don't think it will look right
I could be making a H26 replica from a H26 replica
is that worse than a birmingham sport ?

haven't done a VIN check where would i do that ?Simon13 wrote:VIN check reveal a 318 base car then?
I am pretty sure the base car is a 316/8 the relay bracket has been pop riveted on and the AFM bracket has too they are also a different colour ! (these are not the same as the m20 fitment)
also there are 3 petrol pipes together as in the 316/8 (one should go to a cannister thing ? )
from past experience converting donks to M20 these are the only mods needed on the body under the bonnet

had a bit of good luck today
I heard about a brilliantrot 2 door 316 that might be for sale so i went with another zoner (sweep) to check it out,
we went all over it turns out to be absolutely solid in everyway not a single rust bubble in sight
the paintwork is exellent and a very reasonable price ..result
it is perfect for the resto I am wanting to do it I hope to have it over to my place by the weekend

What are the last 7 digits of the chassis number?
Also looks like you have a chassis number sticker on the ECU, what is the number?
Run these numbers through http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kind=P&arch=1 and it will tell you the origin of the car / cars.
