Looking for a quick valuation on a 528i, Diamond Black, red leather, bodykit, 15" x spokes. All as it left the dealer.

Lots of history and paperwork.

Car has been garaged for 4 years, still starts, but will obviously need a service/brakes etc.

Only pic I have, and this was over 4 years ago..

Si, the one pictured does not seem to have a bodykit ? (Which is a good thing ). I would guess 1-1.5K... has it not moved for all that time ? Really nice examples can make more money than that but without any more details it is difficult to know.

528i's dont have body kits usually unless its some weird zender or bbs item.

Maybe - maybe not.

Check wings, sills, jacking points, floorpans, floor/sill joins, boot floor and number plate panel carefully. Door bottoms go too.

A good 528i will probably get £1500 without too much difficulty. A rotten one is frag feed.

I'll have it if you don't! (that's if I can make space!!)

Seriously though, surely the leather on its own would be worth most of that if the car's rotten?

There was a few of these sold in '87. Diamond black, dechromed, M5 front spoiler, rear spoiler and red/terracotta leather sports trim. All the ones I have seen also had black door cards and consoles.
I bought one about 5 years ago for £120 from a guy in oxford. It had bald metrics which I replaced with E34 15s. I tidied it up and put a MOT on it and served it for about £700 to a victim in the south west.
I wonder is it the same turd ? :)

E28 values seem to have rallied of late but many are so far gone they are only fit for fragging. Good used spares are now thin on the ground and some 'consumables' are no longer available from the likes of euros.

It has to be worth a punt at £400,even if its a rust bucket, will frag for more.

Give it a good poke and prod and then go from there. :)

Not necessarily.

The E28 market is nowhere near as buoyant as the E30.

I wouldn't like to be paying £400 for an E28 breaker.

Nobody wants M30 2.8s. Nobody wants the auto boxes or the diffs. Good body panels will sell, interior trim will sell if good, but it'll be a slow car to break to £800.

It's hardly high finance though is it - obviously, as you're in business, it wouldn't make sense for you, but for a cheap old barge for a usual sort of punter to biff about in for a while it can't be that bad - £400 for a working vehicle (if this one does work that is!) isn't exactly a lot of money.

I'd have it for 4 ton any day. Only had 1 E28 before which I paid a lot less than that for but it wasn't as nice. If I had £400 sitting about I'd be biting his hand off!

When I had mine I do recall there being very few of them about in breakers yards though so parts can be a swine to track down. I was fortunate enough to find a very cheap donor car, which if you have a look on the bay may also be a viable option?? Some do sell very cheap.

If it is an auto check the gearbox is still working correctly.....they can fail (unusual but it does happen), what also happens is you get slow changing or a reluctance to change into top.

Also, check the engine is running correctly, nothing that a good service will sort usually, but in my experience the M30s if only used rarely can get lumpy when idling, and can start to fire on 4 or 5 cylinders. Also, like the M20 eninge they have the oil spray bar over the cam which will get blocked if the oil is not changed regularly leading to fast(er) than normal cam wear. Generally the M30 is a bulletproof engine though.

Steering is recirculating ball and has many links to it (check realoem), as such can feel woolly. Nothing that changing the links will not sort but it depends how much effort you want to go to. You can adjust out some of the play using the hex adjuster on the steering box.

You didn't say if it was a manual or auto?? A manual is going to be worth more... If the body is rot free and it doesn't have the issues above (too badly) 400 is a bargain.

Good luck and post some pics if you get it....
James

Guys i am the new owner of said 528i :D
Just hope all is okay as what can expect for £400.
He did say the rev counter is not working plus the service lights, what do i have to do to fix them.
Also 2 windows are not working where should i start to look for the problem.
Bmw confirmed all the mtec bits like sports seats, lsd, tec 1 wheel,m5 front and rear spoilers and mtec suspension its also a manual car.
Also it called a Tauras car on the spec sheet, does this mean anything to anybody.

Simplest way to fix the dash issue will probably be to find another cluster, although I beleive there are companies who can fix them. Try swapping switches around and check fuses for the windows. what colour is the trim? mine is Taurus red ?

Congratulations...looks nice

Rev counter and service lights are a common problem...

They are fixable, but it is usually easier to get a replacement panel...

Windows: may be seized motors...you can service and rebuild them, but again, easier to get replacements. However, check the door connections aren't corroded.

How is the car, in general? Drives ok? Any pictures, especially of inside?

Thanks thats cleared up :D
So what does all that spec make my car,did they all come with the mtec goodies.
Also looking at a set of M5 16" BBS ALLOYS are they a good upgrade from the standard 15".
Also will my car have colour coded door cards or will they just be black.
Can you still buy overmats from the stealers.

16" M5 wheels will look nice and fairly original. Originally specced the doorcards should be the same colour as the seats. I am not sure about the overmats, they may be available.

As for the spec, it is a nicely specced 528i, not a specific model, there was no sport etc afaik

Well guys have a slight problem,no car has arrived as of yet.
The story so far is,
The car was collected on Thursday afternoon by a professional car transporter guy, thats his job as he owns the company and i got his number form the bay.
The guy said he would pay the guy and when he drops the car of i can settle up with him then.
No car Thursday said he would drop her off Friday late morning early afternoon then late afternoon early evening .
So had the day off on Friday waiting i the get a message saying he can not drop off as he has just found out he has no insurance at about 6 o clock Friday evening.
He said he was not even insured to go to Wales. He said sorry thats the last i have heard of him.
He has the log book and all the history.
The guy could be doing anything to the car not happy anyway.
How should i go about this now as i have not parted with any money the longer its away the more uneasy i will feel.

I have just been offered one exactly the same as this down here in Bridgwater. I thought for a minute it might of had the leather fitted at a later stage because of the black door cards.
This one has a private plate too, where was yours coming from?

The guy who has this is a customer of my flatmate. He is a mechanic somewhere. Picked the car up very cheap afaik and has done some welding to pass mot plus I put him onto Fritz to get replacement struts as his had rotted. It has a dent in the bottom of one rear door but bar that is quite tidy. Rear arch lips are a little flakey but not visibly so.

He wants to much for it for me to buy, I offered him my passat, which in all honesty is probably worth twice as much but has its own issues, but he wasnt interested.
